Zebedee and Martha E Benefield Pyatte

Zeb first appeared with his parents on the 1860 census at age 4 as 'Zebedee' in Mountain Home Township, Watauga County, North Carolina. When Nick was about 7 years old, his father was killed in the Civil War. The family evidently moved to Mitchell County, North Carolina sometime before the 1870 census. His mother did not remarry until 1877 probably about the time Zeb was married. Both marriages probably occurred in Mitchell County, North Carolina.

Zeb married Martha E Benefield who was born November 17, 1857 and who died July 24, 1930.

Zeb and Martha had the following known children:

• William W Pyatt b: c1877 NC (probably Mitchell Co)
• Louisa M Pyatt b: c1878 NC (probably Mitchell Co)
• Joseph L Pyatt b: c1879 NC (probably Mitchell Co)

I found Zeb and family on the 1880 census in Linville, Mitchell County, North Carolina:

• Pyatt, Zebideo age 24 born NC / Married / Male / Farmer / father/mother born NC
• Pyatt, Martha E. (Wife) age 23 born NC / Married / Female / W / Keep House / father/mother born NC
• Pyatt, William W. (Son) age 3 born NC / Single / Male / W father/mother born NC
• Pyatt, Louisa M. (Dau) age 2 born NC / Single / Female / W / father/mother born NC
• Pyatt, Joseph L. (Son) age 7M born NC / Single / Male / father/mother born NC

This abstract is from familysearch.org page 67D. Next door to his brother, Nick D Pyatt, and mother, Matilda Vance, with her second husband, William Vance. His sister, Ellen Wilson and family lived in Bakersville, Mitchell County, North Carolina. I think it is interesting that both Zeb and Nick had a child who was seven months old.
