Zeb first appeared with his parents on the 1860 census at age 4 as 'Zebedee' in Mountain Home Township, Watauga County, North Carolina. When Nick was about 7 years old, his father was killed in the Civil War. The family evidently moved to Mitchell County, North Carolina sometime before the 1870 census. His mother did not remarry until 1877 probably about the time Zeb was married. Both marriages probably occurred in Mitchell County, North Carolina.
Zeb married Martha E Benefield who was born November 17, 1857 and who died July 24, 1930.

This abstract is from familysearch.org page 67D. Next door to his brother, Nick D Pyatt, and mother, Matilda Vance, with her second husband, William Vance. His sister, Ellen Wilson and family lived in Bakersville, Mitchell County, North Carolina. I think it is interesting that both Zeb and Nick had a child who was seven months old.
