Minutes of ABATE District 9 General Meeting
June, 2001
Roll call - 18 members present
Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm
Minutes read by Keith DuPriest. Motion made, seconded, and carried, to accept the minutes as read
Treasurers report read by Bill Merritt. MMS&C to accept treasurers report as read.
Old Business: A complete report was given covering our Blossom Festival Bike Show. Prez Whitefield reminded that we need to send in invoices to get our budgeted-for compensation for trophies, etc. The Prescott Drags from last month was revisited, as was District 12s Backwoods Boogie, which members reported was a fine event. Dale Fallin also gave a thorough report on the recent Branson Biker Rally, in Branson, Missouri. Bubba Whittemore finished with a report on the ROT Biker Rally in Austin, which this year had over 22,000 in attendance.
New Business: Bill Norris made members aware of the District 12 Memorial Ride, set for Sunday, June 17th, for injured D12 brother Tommy Gately. More details can be found at http://abate12.homestead.com/tommy.html. Also discussed were several other upcoming events, including: D9 dinner ride, June 15th; D9 Group ride, (note change of date) June 24th; Toy Ride for Arkansas Childrens Hospital, July 7th; Bikers Sunday, July 8th; Sturgis Rally, August 2nd; and the March of Dimes Arkansas Bikers for Babies Ride, September 9th. Other topics discussed: Secretary DuPriest introduced members to a couple of nice accessory items they might want to order for their bikes: Formotions windshield- or handlebar-mounted clocks and temp gauges. Initial group order was taken. Members were also informed that we have extra Bike Show Ts left (additional to the pre-orders) for sale, in XL. RC Jay Brown expressed concern that we have been getting too little participation from too many members, for club "duties" such as work days at the clubhouse, and D9 events. Amen. VP Whittemore suggested we have our own D9 t-shirts and caps made up with just our logos, and for sale to D9 members only. It was also deemed that these should be in lighter colors, gray or sand. Both motions were heartily approved. Artiste Russell Rowe will conjure up some designs for the next meeting.
Treasurer Merritt provided Bike Show pictures, and Secretary DuPriest added "pic-pages" to the bulletin board.
RC Brown played a new "Group Riding" video, sponsored by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. Jay also strongly encouraged all riders, young or old, novice or experienced, to PLEASE take the MSF ERC (Experienced Rider Course), for the sake of ALL of us. Remaining class dates for 2001 are September 22nd and October 6th.
Guest at the meeting was Bill Graham (no, not that one).
Bill Norris was lucky 50-50 winner.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45pm
