Minutes of ABATE District 9 General Meeting

May, 2001

  • Roll call - 30 members present

Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm

Minutes read by Keith DuPriest. Motion made, seconded, and carried, to accept the minutes as read

Treasurer’s report read by Bill Merritt. MMS&C to accept treasurer’s report as read.

Old Business: Condolences were extended to Keith DuPriest and his family upon the loss of his father on April 18th. Time was also taken to ponder the even more recent loss of one our own D9 (and formerly Southwest Arkansas Road Runner) members, and friend to so many of us, Dale Cox. It was suggested, and immediately approved, that the upcoming 2001 District 9 Bike Show t-shirts, which will feature Dale’s last art work, shall include a memorial tribute to Dale. Our Ice Breaker get-together of April 21st was discussed, and Bill Merritt had plenty of pics to show. A report was also given updating everyone on the work done the next day to the out-buildings around the clubhouse. Joe Bunner gave us a quick rundown on topics discussed at the State Board Meeting. Jim Barner followed with a brief report on the D9 dinner ride to Camden.

New Business: Volunteering to help out on Security and Gate duty at the upcoming Prescott Drags were Tom Manning, Jim Barner, Joe Bunner, Jerald Bunner, Bill Norris, Ovid Switzer, John Ramares, and Jay Brown. They will be responsible for ABATE 9 representation from 6am to 12 noon on Sunday morning. President Whitefield gave a summary of topics considered, and decisions made at a recent board meeting. Among other things, it was decided that we will have a DJ for our End-of-Summer Rally rather than to hire a band. Also, no alcoholic beverages will be sold or distributed at future D9 functions. Jay Brown is also going to be checking into incorporating, as well as exploring liability issues, and the possibility of obtaining event liability insurance. We also need to look into renter’s insurance, or some sort of blameless agreement. As far as things that need to be done at the clubhouse, the A/C needs fixing, and Dee West has offered to put up additional lights at the clubhouse, which met with overwhelming support. Members were updated about status of D9 Bike Show preparations. Russell Rowe presented members with two different versions of T-shirt design for their consideration, to have available for members and guests at the Bike Show. Version "A" was voted the winner. Volunteers were once again coaxed from the crowd to help out with the Bike Show. Raising their hands to help were Lisa & Bubba Whittemore, Joe Bunner, Bill Norris, Bill & Sharon Merritt, Patrick Peace, Nena Dennis, Albert Cooper, Ovid Switzer, Junior Talley, Jay Brown, Keith DuPriest, Jim Danley, and James Whitefield. A list of materials needed for the show was read out loud, with members agreeing to be responsible for those items. Members were made aware of other upcoming rides and events for May: D9 Dinner Ride - Friday, May 11th; District 18 Bike Show - May 12th; Survivor M/C Poker Run - May 26th; District 12 Backwoods Boogie - May 25 - 27th; Gulfport, Ms. Rally - May 25-27. And, finally, members present were asked for voluntary donations, which the D9 treasury pledged to match, to be sent to the American Heart Association in memory of Dale Cox.

    Meeting adjourned at 8:40pm
