ABATE DISTRICT 9 MONTHLY MEETING, NOVEMBER 6,
2001 M I N U T E S On Tuesday, November 6th, ABATE District 9 held their monthly meeting at the Brewster's Place clubhouse, 17 members were present. Meeting was called to order by President Whitefield at 7:05pm. In the absence of Secretary DuPriest, Hot Damn Queen, Gloria Whitefield took the minutes. Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes from the October meeting. Motion carried. Treasurer Merritt presented the financial report and read a letter from Arkansas Childrens Hospital acknowledging receipt of the $120.00 donation made in memory of Jim Danley. Motion made and seconded to accept the treasurer's report. Motion carried. Discussed Charlie Cook's accident in Shreveport. He and his wife are doing fine; credited their helmets with minimizing injuries while his Gold Wing was totaled. Tommy Nash underwent back surgery in Little Rock; still does not have feeling back in legs. Several members reported on the "Boo Run" held the previous weekend in Jefferson, Texas. About 800 bikers were present, 12 to 13 from D9. Ricky Jurls reported about 2,500 bikers at the CMA Rally near Mena. Great attendance and wonderful weather. Discussed the D9 Toy Run scheduled for Sunday, November 18th. The group will assemble at the Brookshire's Parking Lot and leave at 2:00 to ride to Union Street Station where Doug West will prepare chili. 13 sponsors have agreed to donate $100 to cover costs of the tee-shirts and the chili. Shirts to be same design as last year except long sleeve. Members agreed to lengthen the route to include diverting down Jackson Street and circling SAU. Jay Brown will communicate change to the police department. Toys will be turned over to the Police Explorers for distribution to needy children. Jay suggested someone go to KZHE to promote the event. Discussed El Dorado Toy Run scheduled Saturday, November 17th. Discussed the D9 / Junior Charity League Coats for Kids. Volunteers agreed to deliver boxes to the various pick up sites and transfer coats from each site to the cleaners two to three times per week. Distribution will be on Saturday, December 15th from the former Hall Closet store on the square. Ricky Dennis made a motion that we hold a D9 Christmas party. After discussion, the group agreed that D9 will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs and members will bring a covered dish. Ken Pearson and Ricky Dennis agreed to cook the burgers and dogs. Date will be Saturday, December 15th. Event will replace the December dinner ride. Keith to e-mail members asking for RSVP to determine headcount, and to poll membership to see if they prefer to pay $5 and upgrade to steaks and if the event should be members and guests only, or if we should include children. Members reminded that elections are coming up in February. Bill Norris won $14.00 in the 50/50 drawing and graciously donated the money to the Toy Run. Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm. |
