For they had come from afar
To capture the bird
And the song they had heard
-Did they not understand:

The nightingale was part of the forest
Was the heart of the forest
And the song she sang
Was the song that rang
In every true heart of the forest
And little would they care
Would the bird not be there

If it weren`t for the song of the forest
The land would be bare
Would the song not be there
For the song is the heart of the forest

So she was singing on
The nightingale
In the hearts of the souls of the forest
Though in silence she stayed
And couldn`t be swayed
By vain promises of her keepers
Though her silence was pain
It would not be in vain
It was pain for the hearts in the forest
For the heart that longs
And the heart that sings
Become one in the voice of the song
So the silent song
Grew to be more strong
Than the song that had been heard
And the silent bird
Had a greater worth
Than when singing - for the hearts in the forest

So they listened well
In this silent spell:
The heart of the nightingale
And the hearts of the souls in the forest
Listen`d with bated breath
To the song in her breast
Of the wish to be free
As she silently
Sang to the hearts in the forest
From the cage of the king
Who didn`t know how to sing
Nor listen to the hearts of the forest
