Costumes Tutorial by Drac and Boo

Meow kitties! I'm Boo and I'm going to show you how we dress up in our costumes. We have lots of occasions to dress up here in CLAW, if we want to, as well as other times. Whether it be for a party, an outing, graduation, Halloween, or any other occasion, it's fun to dress up and it isn't as difficult as some of you might think.

Before we get started, lets mew a little about what you will need. To begin with, you will have to have an image editing program. We have PSP 7, PSP 8, PhotoShop 7, and PhotoImpact 7. Our favorite and the one we use most often is PSP 7, but they all have good qualities. If you don't already have an image editing program, you can download a demo version of any or all of these programs (although it's difficult to find PSP 7 now that PSP 8 is out) so you can see how they work and decide which one you like best. You will also need pictures of yourself and the costume you want to wear. All of us have made tubes from our favorite pictures of ourselves, but you can use any picture you have of yourself. Your costume must be a tube or transparent gif, though, in order for you to be able to wear it. We prefer working with tubes because the image quality is much better.

My brother, Drac, made all of the previews for you, so you can see exactly what we do. The previews are all made in PSP 7.04, but our instructions will work with any version of PSP. Although your desktop will look different if you use PhotoShop or PhotoImpact, the instructions will work basically the same. We aren't going to be using anything but PSP for this basic tutorial. Of course, once you've gotten all dressed up, you can embellish your picture any way you like.

Okay... you ready to get started? Open a new 500 x 500 transparent image. You might think that is rather large, but we like having a large canvas to work in. Open the image of yourself and your costume tube and set them off to the side of your new image.

Left-click on the picture of yourself to make it active. Go to the layer palette and left-click on the layer with your picture. Hold the left mouse button down and drag your picture to the new image. Let go of the mouse button and your picture will be centered on the canvas. You can close the picture of yourself now because you will be using the copy you just made in the new image. Now, left-click on your costume and drag and drop it into the new image just like you did with your picture. Your costume will be centered over your picture. Close your costume tube.

Hmmmm... it looks like Drac has outgrown his costume! No problem, we can fix that...
