PURPLE SKIRT
PADME'S
SENATE DRESS
Star Wars Attack of the Clones Costume
PATTERN USED: McCall's 3449 Bridal Skirt
FABRIC:
Satin Acetate - the satin really reflects the flash. If I had to start over
again I would not use acetate as it is very difficult to press and it gets water
spots easily. I now wish I had gotten a polyester satin from Britex with more
of a matte finish - it was a shade lighter and a bit more of a blue violet.
If I could have found it in an appropriate color, a heavy silk would have been
nice (perhaps a taffeta as it is suspected the *real* costume is made out of.)
NOTES: The tabard is couched with boudon cord.
1" Horsehair braid was used at the hem. A blind hem was done, but the front of the skirt hem is not hanging well. I'll probably have to rip out the hem in the front and resew it. I should have followed the hem directions given with the pattern - but it's too late now.
The back seams of the skirt look a little rippled in the photo, this fabric is not easy to press and I used a seam stick to press the seams open.
The Yoke of the skirt was altered to remove the V shape. The tabard was added to the front. A farthingale is worn underneath the skirt.
