Recent and old news about art in the local papers:
Kalispell artist Linda K. Christensen's painting "The Healing" has been accepted into the Magical Lakes and Enchanted Forests 2006 exhibition tour in Europe. Works by artists around the world will be displayed in August at the Vezzano Gallery in Trentino, Italy and then at the Lofthouse Gallery in Rosshaupton/Burgeau, Germany until spring 2007.
Another Christensen painting, Surviving Dark Times," was accepted into the Flight of Imagination juried exhibition at the Giger Museum in Gryeres, Switzerland from June to September in 2006.
Kalispell artist Linda K. Christensen's painting "Crops of People" was selected for the Brave Destiny exhibit in Brooklyn, NY. This will be the world's largest show of living artists working today in Surrealism, surreal/ Conceptual, Visionary, and fantastic art. The exhibit is on display September 20 through November 2, 2003 at the WAH Center, sponsored by the Society for the Art of the Imagination.
This painting addresses the population growth and loss of agricultural land in the Flathead valley. As we grow in population, our world becomes smaller. In fact for many, the mountains are but a backdrop to their increasingly fast paced lives. We all chase this "corporate carrot" thinking that we are seeking fulfillment in life. In the end, we find that our local world can no longer feed us with food, nor will it feed our souls.
Linda is a full time artist in the valley, painting primarily in watercolor. Linda paints portraits and landscapes, but her first love in painting resides in reacting to the world around us. The ironic part about being accepted into a show in New York City is that for Linda, this city represents an extreme version of what population growth will lead us to.
