"Fantômas."
"What did you say?"
"I said: Fantômas."
"And what does that mean?"
"Nothing....Everything!"
"But what is it?"
"No one....And yet, yes, it is someone!"
"And what does this someone do?"
"Spreads terror!"
-Opening lines of Fantômas, the first novel in the series.
The name Fantômas originally came from novels about the character by Pierre Souvestre and Marcel Allain about an evil master of disguise.
The picture shown left is of a comic book about Fantômas, known as Fantômas Sanchez, who appears on Fantômas' debut album. There are also pre and post-war films, and TV shows from many countries about the character.

Who is in Fantômas?
Mike Patton - Vocals/Keyboards/Samples
The man who created the whole idea of Fantômas. After making a demo of music (The Diabolik demo), he sent it to several musicians. They returned his tapes with their own input showing where they can play their instruments. They then went to the studio and recorded their debut Fantômas [Amenaza Al Mundo].
Trevor Dunn - Bass
Patton's main choice for a bassist was Trevor Dunn, who has been friends with Patton for years, since they started Mr Bungle together back in their school days.
Dave Lombardo - Drums
Jazz drummer and ex Slayer member. Lombardo was actually Patton's second choice for a drummer, next to Patton's friend; Igor Cavelera of Sepultura. Patton turned him down since Igor got the wrong idea of the band. But Lombardo was right for the job, being the most ideal metal drummer. Lombardo is also currently playing in Grip Inc.
Buzz Osborne - Guitar/Vocals
Famous for being King Buzzo, the lead singer of the Melvins, and the only original member left in the band. Buzz is not only the guitarist, but he actually performs some of the vocals for Fantômas as well.
