[the story]
..initial d takes place in japan in the gunma perfecture. the main character is
takumi fujiwara, 18 years old, and just got his license. every saturday there
are street races in the local mountains. takumi and his friend itsuki go to the
local mountain, mt. akina. takumi drives the sprinter trueno AE86, and has been
driving up and down the mountain delivering tofu for his dad since he was 13.
rumor has it that there is an AE86 that has incredible skill at driving in mt.
akina, and that it delivers tofu. little did these street racers know that it is
takumi. takumi does not race, however, but along the way he gets to like it more
and more. his first race is with keisuke takahashi of the akagi redsuns. the
local akina team, the akina speedstars, had asked takumi's father, bunta
fujiwara, to race against the redsuns. the speedstars knew that bunta is a very
skilled street racer, but they didnt know that he was the one who taught takumi
to race. large crowds gather in akina mountain, eager to see the rumored AE86
race the famous keisuke of the redsuns. the speedstars were surprised to see
takumi arrive in the AE86, instead of bunta. as the race starts they discover
takumi's ability to race. along the series takumi races other teams, the myogi
night kids, impact blue of usui mountain, emperor and of course the redsuns. [cha.racters]
