CAROLINAS REGION ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES
September 30, 2001, Duncan, NC
Region Director (RD), Cissy Smith (Piedmont), called the meeting
to order at 10:00 am. Cissy recognized Dorothy Johnson, Region Representative
of the newly chartered Aiken Stitchin' Belles Chapter.
Roll Call of Chapters: Secretary, Sallie Folk (Florence Area), called
the roll. Chapters represented for a total of 58 members were Aiken
Stitchin' Belles (1), Augusta (3), Blue Ridge (10), Cardinal (2), Charlotte
(5), Danville (1), Florence Area (5), Gifted Hands (7), Golden Needles
(2), Magnolia (2), Millwood (1), Needle Gems (1), Piedmont (5), Salem Stitchers
(1), Spartan Samplers (8), The Laurel (2), and Up-Country (2). Chapters
without representation were Chicora Stitchers, Draper's Meadow, Low Country,
Scotch Bonnet, Star Stitchers, Tar River, and Tryon. Secretary, Sallie
Folk stated that the Carolinas Region meeting did have a quorum.
April 1, 2001 minutes were approved as published.
ANNUAL REPORTS:
Region Director: Cissy Smith reported the following:

The region is the link between the chapters and National Headquarters.
-
The region website has a new domain name: http://www.egacarolinas.org.
-
Family memberships are a possibility. Discussion followed.
-
EGA forms are on the National website: www.EGAUSA.org and in the president's
notebook.
-
For reporting purposes please note that new EGA National officers will
be elected and activated during the Newport Beach, CA Seminar and Region
officers will be elected during the September 30, 2001 meeting but not
active in new roles until January 1, 2002.

Who gets what may change.
-
National is trying to get a 50th anniversary commemorative stamp approved.
-
Linen Luggers and Lamp Luggers will be sold at merchandise night at the
National Seminar.
Assistant Region Director (ARD): Ann Blalock (Charlotte) discussed
the CRESS Scholarship and explained the Extended Study Program (ESP).
Education Coordinator: Jeanne Earnhardt reported the following:

35 spiral bracelet participants.

Group Correspondence Courses for the Region are Rose Splendor and Mexican
Convent Sampler 1.
-
Four Fan in My Attic were sent in for critique.
-
Nine Ukranian Openwork were sent in for critique.
Treasurer: Jackie Newsome (Cardinal) presented the following report
(a copy was included in the chapter folders): CAR Financial Report for
1/1/2001 - 9/28/2001
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Bylaws: Karen Dixon (Piedmont) discussed the CAR bylaws change.

Cissy Smith called for the vote.

The changes were approved.
Financial Planning: Jackie Newsome, Jennifer Frye (Gifted Hands)
and Jeannette Lovensheimer (Florence Area) presented the proposed budget
for 2002.

The budget was approved.
Region Cookbook: Jennifer Frye reported the following:

The cookbook still needs recipes in the Breads and Meats, Poultry and Seafood
categories.

Also need a layout for the front cover.
Membership: Dot Myers (Augusta) reported the following:

We have 873 members in the region.

Please review chapter job descriptions.
-
Needs membership forms and roster forms.
Newsletter: Lynn Todd reported the following:

Next deadline is November 1.
-
RegioNews is on the region website.
-
Email information for RegioNews as text in the email or as a Word attachment.
Seminar 2001 Committee: Ann Blalock reported the following:
-
59 attendees.
-
Made $2914.52.
-
Suggested the Region use the money from the seminar to underwrite future
teaching costs.
-
Need to look at other venues to hold the seminar.
-
Want to keep the stitching room and non-class fee.
2002 Seminar: Jeannette Lovensheimer reported the following:
-
Will have a non-participant fee.
-
The Seminar 2002 commuter fee will probably be set at the cost of one room
night in the hotel. This will be done because Seminar 2002 costs
will be greatly increased if the room night contract is not met.
Members of the Hilton Head Island based Low Country Chapter EGA will be
exempted from the commuter fee.

Tee shirts with the 2002 logo will be sold at the 2001 National Seminar
and the March Region meeting.

Seminar 2002 is at the Palmetto Dunes Hotel at the Marriott Beach and Golf
Resort.
Community Outreach: Marianne Reeves (Gifted Hands) for Mary Mahaffey
reported that each chapter would receive its certificate in the mail.
Miniature House: Linda Eason stated that eleven projects are
in progress.
Nominating Committee: Beth Brown (Charlotte), Nominating Committee
Chairman gave the following slate of officers for 2002-2004:

Region Director: Ann Blalock - Charlotte

Assistant Region Director: Lynn Tesch - Augusta

Treasurer: Roxanne Hodgkin - Golden Needles
Marcia Bremser (The Laurel) moved that the slate be accepted, Karen Dixon
seconded, and the motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:

Diane Stavola, President of Blue Ridge Chapter, introduced the Educator's
Award of Excellence winner (EA of E): Rosemarie Novatney
-
Cissy Smith presented the EA of E pin and certificate.
-
Market place silent auction items were on display.
-
Blue Ridge Chapter used their membership recruitment and retention grant
to put standing Plexiglas holders to display their Chapter and National
EGA brochures.
-
March Region meeting information will be available soon.
-
Stitch Beyond theme is "Wing it".
-
Carolinas Region Annual Reports were distributed. Please complete
and return them to Ann Blalock, incoming Region Director, by December 15,
2001.
Region Director Cissy Smith adjourned the meeting at 12:40 p.m.
