CISSY’S FINAL SALUTATIONS

I can hardly believe that my four years as Carolinas Region Director ends on December 31, 2001 and this is my last Salutations article for RegioNews!  Thank you all for the opportunity to serve in this capacity and for your wonderful help!  It has been interesting, challenging, and often a pleasure.  The events of September 11 and the following days caused me to think deeply about my country, my priorities and about the organizations I support.  Many chapters are in the process of electing officers this time of year (remember to send in the Officer Change Forms), a Carolinas Region Board was elected in September, and a new EGA National Board during the Annual meeting in October.  I trust you will unite to give your full support to your duly elected leadership and will step forward with your time and your talent when it is your turn to accept a position within EGA.  I am turning in my RD hat but won’t go into total EGA withdrawal since I am the new National Membership Chairman and still Seminar 2002 Assistant Chairman and Volunteer Chairman.  I’ll be soliciting your membership ideas as I solicit your help with our fantastic Moonlight and Magnolias Seminar!

My thanks go to all that were able to attend the CAR Annual Meeting.  It was wonderful to see you even though you brought me to tears with the standing ovation.  Sallie Folk has included the minutes from our Annual Meeting and you can hit the business highlights as you review them.  We adopted a budget for 2002, discussed the option of family memberships, elected new officers, advertised the Extended Study Programs and our Region sponsored Group Correspondence Courses and our new website among many other things.  It was disappointing that several of our chapters did not have representation at the meeting and I hope all chapters will send representatives to the March, 2002 meeting and take an active part in managing our organization.  I did not go to the expense of mailing items contained in the chapter mailboxes of those chapters that did not attend the region meeting and hope that the information from the Education Coordinator, Membership Chairman, and other officers will be adequate as outlined in this publication.

Remember that our officers will change as of January 1, 2002 as will many chairmanships.  I will ask our incoming Region Director, Ann Blalock, to publish her committee in this edition so you will be set for the change when it occurs.  Our National EGA officers and chairmen changed when they were elected and those will also be published in this newsletter and will be sent out in the chapter president’s mailings from EGA Headquarters.

Enjoy the upcoming holidays and remember to be thankful for each other and work in some stitching time.  I will hand over my EGA gavel with confidence in the creative leadership abilities of our new Executive Board.

Cissy Smith, Director
Carolinas Region EGA
