DeLoreans have stainless steel bodies, so that makes them rustproof, right?

Wrong. The bodies for the most part are rustproof, but the chassis is a different story. It is composed of standard materials, so it can rust. There was actually a rust resistant coating that was added to the chassis during production, but it was put on too thick and in most cases ended up cracking, allowing water to penetrate it.
