Pervasive Influences

"Pervasive Influences" is the Riverdogs bootleg much sought after by fans of the band. It was recorded for live broadcast on the radio hence, the sound quality is surprisingly as good as a legitimate release. Another plus in my mind is that you get the show truly live without the inevitable overdubs that make most live releases too slick. The lineup on this recording is Rob Lamothe on Lead Vocals and Guitar, Nick Brophy on bass and Vocals, Vivian Campbell on Lead Guitar, Vocals and trade off Lead Vocal on "I Believe" and Marc Danzisen on Drums and Vocals. The recording features seven cuts and is only 36 minutes long however, the band wastes not one minute of it. Of the seven cuts all but one appear on the bands debut release "Riverdogs". If you have yet to hear that recording you are missing truly one of the finest rock albums released in the 90's. Rob Lamothe, is one of the truly gifted singer/song writers of the past 15 years and as on all his recordings he holds nothing back here be it when he is singing or having fun with the crowd between songs. Rob's songs are very personnel and emotional much in the way that John Lennon wrote lyrics. Throw into that mix the guitar wizard Viv Campbell and you have a recording that leaves you with chills. Viv Campbell is an emotional "feel" player which is a gift that you can not teach. All the great players seem to have this trait. I believe he never played better before or after his "union" with Rob Lamothe and this record bears that out on his extended solos on "Whisper" and "Baby Blue". Viv is surprisingly a very good singer too. Nick Brophy is the glue that keeps this whole vehicle together and drives the band to the heights that they achieve. Nick was the guitar player in the band and a very good one who moved to bass when Viv joined. A consummate musician he rounds out this trio of gifted players. This album rocks, gives you chills, a little blues, but most of all leaves you wanting more which is the way it should be. The only draw back to this record is that it is a bootleg thus, the band sees none of the proceeds for their work. Which is a shame as a recording such as this deserves to be heard by a much larger audience. The brilliance of this band never ceases to amaze me and this recording bears that out. Not an easy recording to find and very expensive if you do.

The Riverdogs live ROCK!! All the live stuff I have heard by them blows away all the other live stuff I hear these days. The songs sound even better live then the studio recordings, the band seems to have a ball playing them... and I have a ball listening to them! I wish I had had a chance to see the band live when they were together, but at least I have cd's like this one to listen to, which helps A LITTLE anyway! Baby Blue is fantastic live... always one of my favorite songs... Toy Soldier and Whisper as well. The only problem I can find with this cd is that IT ISN'T LONG ENOUGH!! Its hard to find, but worth the hunt, one of the best live recordings I have heard!
