As the sun set on this island in Stockholm, the scene looked as if a painted landscape. The photos here are from traveling the Baltic region with Sara, a friend from college who came to visit for a week.

"Thank you, thank you. Please hold your applause! I am so honored to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics..." [an excerpt from Dan's kooky imagination while in the Blue Hall, the set of the Nobel Banquet each year]

Sara in the streets of Gamla Stan, Stockholm's old city. The old city covers a central island of streets and alleyways filled with colorful buildings.

One special treat came in the first day in Stockholm. I stepped out of a toy store to the sounds of the Swedish royal military band, as they marched through the city center.

Tampere at night, the factory district lit up. One thing I realized from this trip to several Baltic cities was how much I love Tampere, how much it's my home now, with so much to offer.

Dinner at the Viking restaurant in Tampere with friends from my Monday Bible study. Shown here are Holly, Petri, me, and Sara. Check out our meal -- A sword stabbed through boar, reindeer, red deer, and veggies. mmmm...

Another place we visited was Turku, the original capital of Finland, where much Swedish is spoken. This photo is of the Turku Castle, and the tiny looking people are Aaron and Mia, friends from my program here.

The majestic Helsinki Cathedral overlooks the city. We stopped in Helsinki and took a boat from there to Tallinn, Estonia (shown in the next set of photos).
