Windward Foresail Change
WINDWARD FORESAIL CHANGE
EXAMPLE:
The wind builds and the vessel is on a Starboard Tack with
a number 0ne (#1) Genoa working in the center Headfoil Track.
OBJECTIVE
Replace the larger or "old" Foresail (Genoa #1) with a smaller "new"
Foresail (Genoa #2 or #3).
* Bring the "new" Foresail from below.
* Make ready the "new" Genoa on the Foredeck.
* Connect the Tack to the Starboard Ram Horn.
* Connect the "new" Halyard Shackle to the "new" Genoa Head Grommet.
* Insert the "new" Genoa Luff Chord through the Prefeeder.
* Uphaul the "new" Genoa into the Starboard Headfoil Track (24 in.).
* Tension the Slack of the "new" Halyard and Cleat the Halyard.
* Replace the Lazy Sheet from the "old" Genoa to the "new" Genoa Clew.
* Adjust the Starboard Car ensemble to accomodate the "new" Sheet.
* Ready the "new" Halyard Fall two Wraps around the Winch Drum.
* Load Winch Handle.
* Lead "new" Halyards forward on the same Tack.
* Prepare to Hoist.
* Hoist the "new" Genoa while on Starboard Tack.
* Tension and Cleat the "new" Genoa Halyard.
* Remove and store Winch Handle in the Boot.
* Prepare to Come-About to a Port tack.
Dousing The Old Genoa
* Come about to a Port tack and trim the sails.
* After tacking, uncleat the "old" Genoa halyard.
* Douse the "old" Genoa #1.
* Detach the "old" halyard shackle from the "old" Genoa.
* Secure the "old" halyard.
* Replace Lazy Sheet from the "old" Genoa to the "new" Genoa Clew.
* Adjust the Port Car ensemble to accomodate the new sheet.
* Stow the "old" Genoa below.
The procedure is opposite for a windward change on a Port tack.
WARNING:
A Leeward Headsail change is not advised.
