Good old Rincewind, eh? Generally, when people think of Discworld, he's the first guy they think of. He was the star of the first Discworld novel and immediately it was realised just how much of a coward he was. Of course, it's this cowardess together with his sarcasm and his pessimistic outlook on life that makes him so popular. However, this can also lead to some problems. Many people don't like his books because all they seem to be is this guy running away from anything dangerous and this is partly true. But I like the Rincewind books. To me they're like the big hollywood blockbusters of the discworld series - sure, they mightn't have the strongest storylines but what they do have is alot of fun. So just try to enjoy them for what they are and don't try to analyse them.
In 3 of the books ("The Colour of Magic", "The Light Fantastic" and "Interesting Times") Rincewind is accompanied by Twoflower, the disc's first tourist. His innocence and, let's face it, stupidity make him one of my favourite characters. It's also through Twoflower that Rincewind meets the luggage-the most demented travel accesory known to man. In the "Light Fantastic" and "Interesting Times" Rincewind is joined by Cohen the Barbarian.
Rincewind was the star of the first two discworld computer games on Saturn/PC/Playstation but was left out of the third.
