FOURTH
ANNUAL FASHION SHOW A SUCCESS - APRIL 21, 2001!
For
the fourth year in a row, the WomenÕs Auxiliary of the Animal Rescue League
held a benefit fashion show and luncheon to raise funds to benefit the
homeless animals waiting for adoption at the Hamilton Avenue facility.

It
was a gloomy, rainy day full of April showers, but that didnÕt stop
the invited guests from having a good time inside the beautiful setting
of the Fox Chapel Golf Club. The afternoon began with a Silent Auction,
which offered a wide variety of items, including a hand crafted pine
baby cradle, tickets to Pirate games at the new ballpark, spa
services, pet portraits, oil paintings and sculptures, restaurant
gift certificates, and a one-of-a-kind
hand crafted kaleidoscope, to mention just a few. A link to the
complete list of Silent Auction donors appears at the bottom of this
page. |
Guests
were able to mingle with the canine models before the fashion show began.
Most of the canine models even sat with their owners during lunch (all
were on their absolute best behavior). Once the show started, both four-legged
and two-legged models were kept too busy for visiting. Fashions were provided
by Full Moon Rising of the Shops at Station Square. Shop owner Joedda
Sampson not only brought along an assortment of fabulous fashions from
her shop, but she provided her own models (actual customers, plus her
own daughter). Models this year scoffed the runway and instead circulated
through the crowded room, each accompanied by a canine companion (dressed
in their own original fashions). (see photos at bottom
of page)
Special
Guest Larry Richert of KDKA-TV2 did the honors when it came time to
introduce the canine models to the audience. Larry also was called
upon to draw the winning numbers in the Chinese Auctions. His weather
prediction of sunny skies later in the day drew laughs from the crowd,
but proved to be accurate as the day progressed. |

Rain or shine, the day was
a huge success for the WomenÕs Auxiliary. Work has already begun on next
yearÕs show. Hope to see you there!
