SULTAN KUDARAT ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC. (SUKELCO) was organized in consonance with Presidential Decree No. 269
to implement the national policy of total electrification of the country on an area coverage basis. It is a non-stock,
non-profit oriented entity, providing adequate and reliable electric service to its consumers at reasonable cost.
SUKELCO was registered on November 4, 1975 with the National Electrification Administration (NEA), a government owned
and controlled corporation which provides financial and technical assistance to all electric cooperatives. It has an
original franchise area of nine (9) districts which has expanded to 14 municipalities and one (1) city as of
December 2006. The municipalities covered are; Isulan, Lambayong, Pres. Quirino, Bagumbayan, Esperanza, Lebak,
Kalamansig, Sen. NinoyAquino, Columbio, and Palimbang, in Sultan Kudarat province while four municipalities from
Maguindanao province namely Buluan, Datu Paglas, Salipada K. Pendatun and Paglat are also included in its franchise
area. The component city of Tacurong is the only city serviced by SUKELCO.
On December 12, 1977, the cooperative took over the distribution system of the now defunct Mindanao Progress Electric
Company (MINPELCO) at Tacurong Poblacion with 910 consumers. On the same year, SUKELCO also started buying the excess
power of SPGC – NGA at Tacurong to augment its power supply. On October 1, 1978, the phase 1 construction of backbone
line from Tacurong to Isulan was undertaken by 512 Engineering Construction Batallion.
On June 18, 1979, Isulan became the first municipality energized. SUKELCO’s operation took off when its first 5MVA
substation at Kalandagan, tacurong was connected and energized by the National Power Corporation on September 29, 1980.
Sultan Kudarat Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SUKELCO) is a member owned and managed, non-stock, non-profit electric
cooperative organized in accordance with the provisions of R.A. No. 6038 as amended by P.D. 269. The Cooperative
was incorporated on November 24, 1975 with the primary purpose of supplying, promoting, and encouraging the fullest
use of electric service to its members on an area coverage basis, pursuant to the provisions of P.D.269.
