Enhancing social responsibility through the SUKELCO Scholarship Program
Year 2005 marked SUKELCO’s taking a greater step to reach out
and extend support to its member-consumers. SUKELCO Scholarship Program was launched on May 1, 2005 at

were awarded scholarship grants – one full and partial scholarship. Through this program, the coop will be taking
care of their educational needs until they graduate in college provided they maintain the standards set.
The regular Tuition Subsidy Program of the cooperative has
been running foe a decade. The program started in 1995 with 25 college students, who were children of member-consumers
availing Php 1,000.00 each as tuition subsidy every semester. Considering the success of the board of directors
expanded the program by increasing the number of recipients to be allocated among the coop maintains 40 grantees
with Php 1,500.00 subsidy each granted every semester.
The above programs were the coop’s way thanking its member-consumers
for all their support through the years. More importantly, it is SUKELCO’s way of taking responsibility in building
brighter future for the poor but deserving youths.
Consumer Welfare and Development
Year 2005 focused more on the consumer. The Board created the
Consumer Desk following the promulgation of the magna carta for residential consumers as provided in RA 9136
(Electric Power Industry Reform Act). This new creation in the structure of the organization ensures that consumer
complaints and concerns are attended to properly and promptly, efficient and reliable service from the cooperative.
Personal Development
The dynamism in the power industry brought about by the Electric
Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 required higher level of competencies. As a response, the management focused more
on training and enhancing competencies of its personnel. For the year 2005, there were sixty-six (66) employees sent
to various seminars and trainings. Likewise, the board of directors also participated in the Good Governance Seminar
as part of the mandatory requirements set by ERC and NEA.
Seventeen (17) personnel were sent to People’s Development Academy
(PDA), Toledo City for various value formation trainings and seminars in 2005.
Likewise, the coop ensured attendance to all mandatory seminars and
trainings required by law specifically the ERC. SUKELCO also participated in comprehensive technical courses conducted
by academes and other institutions to enhance technical competencies.
To maintain open line communications between the employees and board
of directors and management, regular forum and monthly symposia were conducted. Said activities served as avenue to
apprise the employees of the development in the coop and in the industry as a whole. On the other hand, management was
able to hear concerns and issues of the employees relative to the operations.
Membership Activities
The Annual General Membership Assembly was conducted at Bagumbayan,
Sultan Kudarat on May 1 2005. The Members were updated on the changes in the industry and its effects to the operations
and policies of SUKELCO.
The coop ensures that member’s voices are heard by exercising their
rights to suffrage and select people who will be working for their welfare. Thus, the election of board of directors
was conducted on the third month of the year.
