INS: 7
million illegal immigrants in U.S.... |
Frieden,
Terry. “INS: 7 million illegal immigrants in United States.” CNN.com.
January 31, 2003.
The figures show that between October 1996
and January 2000, the number of illegal immigrants grew from about 5.8
million to about 7 million, an increase of more than 300,000 annually.
The proportion of the illegal immigrants who are Mexican has increased to
nearly 70 percent from less than 60 percent, the INS said.
Although California is home to the most undocumented immigrants, Arizona,
Georgia and North Carolina have the greatest rate of increase, the figures
showed. |

Glazov, Jamie. “The
Jews and President Bush.” FrontPageMagazine.com. January
31, 2003. |
In the last
election, American Jews voted 80% for Al Gore and the party that
engineered the Oslo disaster. Since then, President Bush has declared war
on terrorism and identified Yasser Arafat and the Palestine authority as
terrorists. In the last year, moreover, there has been a wave of
anti-Semitism in the United States and abroad coming from the left. One
would think that these developments would affect the traditional
alignments of Jews with the left. Have they? And what is at the root of
the traditional Jewish attraction to the left? |

Loberfeld, Barry. “The
Coercive Communism of Noam Chomsky.” FrontPageMagazine.com. January
31, 2003. |
An essay on
radical behaviorist B.F. Skinner was the last thing I expected to
encounter when I picked up Noam Chomsky’s classic political tract For
Reasons of State. However, I soon recognized the value of this piece,
which I found notable for its presentation of the MIT linguist’s own
notions of freedom and dignity — and what constitutes their negation.1
1This worthiness was recognized
also by editor James Peck, who included an abbreviated version of the
essay in 1987’s The Chomsky Reader. As Clemson University psychologist
Robert L. Campbell has observed, “Once Chomsky put forth these arguments,
the demise of behaviorism . . . [was] assured. B.F. Skinner never answered
Chomsky’s arguments in print . . .” (dailyobjectivist.com/Extro/dividedlegacyofnoamchomsky3.asp).

Calvert, Tommy. “Libya’s
‘UN-Human’ Rights Record.” FrontPageMagazine.com. January
31, 2003. |
Most people
are shocked to learn that there are as many as 30 million people enslaved
in virtually every region of the world. Defined as “forced work for no pay
under the threat of violence,“ contemporary slavery includes chattel
slavery, sex slavery, and debt bondage.
Unfortunately, slaves around the world
received a collective slap in the face on Monday, January 20, 2003, as
Libya was elected to chair the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
This commission is one of the few international forums for confronting
human rights violators and sets the tone and agenda for global human
rights accountability.
Many of you are aware of the plight of
southern Sudanese who are enslaved in Sudan. Most of you are probably not
aware that some of these slaves end up in Libya and are sold into bondage.
The Libyan government has not put a stop to these practices and, with
Libya's dismal human rights record, we are hardly surprised.
The
Middle East continued the East African slave trade long after the West
stopped the West African trade in slaves. Apparently Libya is continuing
this tradition. Again, the U.N. puts political correctness above doing
what’s right.

Ponte, Lowell. “Marxist
Madness.” FrontPageMagazine.com. January
31, 2003. |
ALL BUT THE
MOST LEFTIST LAWMAKERS in Congress applauded last Tuesday night when
President George W. Bush in his State of the Union speech proposed a
massive effort to help the estimated 28.1 million Africans infected with
HIV, a virus linked to AIDS.
In South Africa this lethal plague (spread
mostly by odd and injurious heterosexual practices) has by one estimate
infected 40 percent of all black women of childbearing age. It is cutting
down this nation’s future like a scythe in the hands of one of the fatal
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
“Odd and
injurious heterosexual practices” sounds like the practice of pederasty as
a form of birth control.
When news programs late Thursday teased
that former South African President Nelson Mandela had made “comments”
about President Bush, it therefore seemed likely that Mr. Mandela in
gratitude and largeness of spirit had thanked and praised America’s
President for aid that could save millions of African lives.
Such positive expectations soon proved mistaken. Everything this Nobel
Peace Prize recipient had to say was juiced with venom and ingratitude,
the product of a hateful tongue and increasingly-demented brain.
Since
Left-wingers believe that man’s highest good is the advancement of
socialism they only have gratitude for help that advances socialism.
Mandela’s remarks indicate that he believes in the Leninist theory of
imperialism that holds capitalism responsible for all the evil in the
world. By adhering to extreme Leftist beliefs Mandela is vindicating the
belief that the anti-Apartheid movement was a Communist movement.
This
column also says that the current president of South Africa,
Thabo Mbeki, is
Mandela’s “hand-picked successor.”
Such positive expectations soon proved
mistaken. Everything this Nobel Peace Prize recipient had to say was
juiced with venom and ingratitude, the product of a hateful tongue and
increasingly-demented brain.
Blair and Bush are
“undermining“ the past work of the United Nations, said Mandela. “They do
not care. Is it because the Secretary-General of the United Nations is now
a black man?“ (His reference is to Kofi Annan of Ghana.) “They never did
that when secretary-generals were white,“ said Mandela, revealing as he
uttered these insane words his own racism.
“If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the
world, it is the United States of America,“ declared Nelson Mandela on
Thursday. “They don’t care for human beings.”
Mandela
neglects to mention the countries that have committed “unspeakable
atrocities:” the Soviet Union, Communist China, North Korea, Communist
Vietnam, Communist Cambodia, etc. These regimes cared even less for human
beings than the U.S. This is a variation of the socialist belief in
eliminating private property: “putting people first.”
But somehow Nelson Mandela is unmoved by
the greatest atrocity and violation of human rights in history – the
systematic murder of 100 million people by Marxists – that make even the
monstrous Adolf Hitler look like a small devil by comparison. Perhaps
the reason is that Mandela is himself a Marxist and longtime ally of the
Communist Party of South Africa.
Hitler
needed a war to start his mass killing. Since World War II started as the
result of the allicance between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union,
Communism bears some responsibility for Hitler’s crimes.
We knew Nelson Mandela was a Marxist – a
hater, an enemy of every human being on our planet – even as we helped
save his life and win his freedom. As Aesop told us more than two
milleniums ago, no gratitude (or rationality) is to be expected from the
wicked.
As a sign
on a church in North Little Rock said, “Graditude is a God-honoring
attitude.” If gratitude is God-honorning, what is ingratitude?

“A GLOBAL

characterized by islands of wealth surrounded by a sea of poverty, is
unsustainable,” said South African President Thabo Mbeki in his

Phombeah, Gray. “Children
Rescued from Muslim Torture in Kenya.” FrontPageMagazine.com. January
31, 2003. |
Kenyan police
have rescued 11 boys from an Islamic correctional centre in the capital,
Nairobi, where they were kept in chains and tortured.
Most of the teenagers came from Kenya, but others were from the United
Kingdom, Sweden and Ethiopia.
In a dramatic raid at the Khadija Islamic Institute of Discipline and
Education, the police were forced to fire in the air to fight off
residents pelting them with them stones - before rescuing 10 teenagers who
were being held at the centre.
They were kept in chains and secured by padlocks in small rooms with
little ventilation or light in Eastleigh, a Nairobi suburb inhabited
mainly by ethnic Somalis and refugees from the Horn of Africa.
…
Nairobi police boss Mr Kimenchu says the children were sent to the centre
by their parent who pay $1,500 per child for a two-year stay. “I think the
parents believed their children were learning the Koran. I don't think
they were aware of the actual conditions their children were living in,”
he said. |

Gorin, Julia. “The
Integration Blues.” FrontPageMagazine.com. January
31, 2003. |
After spending decades trying to get white society to include them, black
people finally realized they don't really like hanging around white people
after all.
So indicates a new report by
The Civil Right
Project at Harvard University. According to the study, public schools
have gradually re-segregated. Analyzing enrollments in the 2000-2001
school year, the report found that black and Latino students are more
likely to go to a school where the majority of students are black and
Latino, leaving many schools “white.”
…
Interestingly, schools in the South remain far more integrated than those
in the Northeast and on the West Coast. There, 31% of black students go to
majority white schools, as compared to 13.6% of black students and 13.3%
of Hispanic students who attend majority white schools in New York
state--which was found to have the most segregated schools.
An
AP article citing the report attributes the re-segregation in the
Northeast and West Coast to “socio-economic divisions between city and
suburb,” creating “a different kind of segregation.”
These developments warrant paraphrasing. The social engineers of the North
who, after winning the fight for Southern desegregation, went on to push
for forced busing while sending their own kids to private schools, today
live in the seat of segregation. The reasons they cite are
economical—precisely the argument they famously scoff at when told that
societal segregation has more to do with class than with race. |
