A Little Bit of God

Who?

“Yes mom. I’ll be by in a few minutes. I’m gonna see if I can get AJ or Nick to come with me.” Brian told his mother over the phone. “No one is there at the moment, right?”

“Brian, it’s Tuesday! How many people are at church on Tuesday?” His mother sighed. “Just get here! I really need that notebook with the stuff for the pastor. We’re meeting in 20 minutes.”

“Okay! I’ll be there in a few. Just give me time! Gosh!”

“Son! Don’t get an attitude with me. Even though you’re a Backstreet Boy and married, I can still punish you!” His mother teased.

“I know, bye.” he finished hanging up the phone. “Yo, Nick, AJ! Either of you want to run be the church with me? I don’t feel like going by myself.

“Sure,” Nick said wanted to get out and anything.

“I guess I will too.” AJ agreed not wanting to be left alone. Howie and Kevin were off in Orlando, either with their wife or girlfriend.

“Mom! We’re here!” Brian called walking through the huge church doors.

“Thank goodness! I was beginning to worry.” Mrs. Littrell sighed fanning herself with her hand.

Brian just smiled at his mother.

“B! I’m gonna go look around outside.” AJ announced. Quickly he headed for the fresh out doors. For some reason, church gave him the creeps.

Silently AJ walked back and forth across the parking lot. The place was deserted. No worries of being mobbed.

“Excuse me!” A shy female voice questioned.

“Yeah? What do you want?” AJ replied harsher then he meant. This church was really putting him on the edge.

“Sorry for bothering you. You just seem kind of out of it. Are you okay?” She inquired, concern written across her face.

AJ took his time answering to get a good look at her. She had short brown hair, with pools of chocolate for eyes. She was a tiny girl, not only in size, but also in height. It only made her look even cuter.

“No, I’m fine. I’m here with a friend and just didn’t feel like going inside.” AJ explained.

“Oh, okay. It was nice meeting you...”She stopped.

“AJ.” he filled in. “And you are?”

Katelyn. I hate to run. But I have some work to do in the church. Bye.” Katelyn smiled and waved leaving AJ alone.

“Bye!” AJ called dazed. Then a thought hit him. She hadn’t known who he was! That was a first. That thought made her even more appealing to him.

“AJ! Dude! What are you doing out here?” Nick called coming out to join his band mate. Were you just talking to yourself?”

“What? Oh, no. There was girl out here. Man was she something. She had something about her that I’ve never seen on anyone. I don’t know how to explain it.”

“Does this girl have a name?”

“Yeah. Kathryn...Katelyn..Katie...something like that. I’m gonna go check on B.” AJ finished then left.

Nick stayed outside and watched the cars drive by.

“Hey,” A voice called walking out of the church. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here with a friend. Who are you?” Nick responded not liking the sarcastic filled person.

“I’m Kathryn. I’m also leaving. So don’t even try to start a conversation.”

“I wasn’t planning on it.”

“Good. I don’t have time for teeny bopper boy bands.”

Nick watched her leave, glad she was gone. Her voice had really rattled his nerves.

“Who were you talking to?” AJ asked Nick as he walked back outside.

“That girl you told me about.” Nick replied puzzled as to why AJ saw something great in her. She seemed more like a major pain in the butt.

“You did? Did she leave?” He panicked.

“Yeah. Man she was mean! Talk about special! Maybe she has a special attitude that no one likes.”

“Lay off! She was so sweet. And very beautiful. What is there not to like?”

“For starters, the attitude problem.” Nick stated plainly.

“I don’t see where you’re getting the attitude from! I’m going back inside.” AJ said, sick of his buddies lies.

“Oh, hey AJ!” The girl from earlier sighed heading towards the church doors.

“Hey! My friends said you left.” AJ stumbled for lack of something better to say.

She just glanced at him confused.

“What was your name again? And what is your phone number?” AJ pleaded to know. He quickly pulled out his cell phone to log her number in the memory.

“My name in Katelyn. Why do you want my phone number?”

“To called you..and maybe go out sometime.” AJ nervously implied.

“Oh...gee! Really? Umm...I’m kind of really busy right now. Maybe sometime later...as in months later..that is.” Katelyn stumbled extremely nervous. She pasted a smile on her face.

“Come on! Just one date. You seem like you would be fun to hang out with.”

“I may seem that way, but I’m not!” She covered. She had no desire to go anywhere with this tattooed freak.

“Please, just one. That’s all I’m asking.

“That’s all it’ll take for me to fall head over heels in love.” She muttered under breath.

“What was that?”

“Nothing. I didn’t say anything.”

“Yeah ya did.”

“No!”

“Yes!”

“No!”

“Hey guys! AJ! I see you met Katelyn. I grew up with her. Although she is your age, not mine.” Brian laughed putting a brotherly arm around Katelyn’s shoulder.

“Well, I need to go, Brian.” Katelyn smiled walking away.

“No!” AJ yelled running after her. He grabbed her by the arm just before she opened her car door. “Please give me you number!”

“Fine! Don’t blame me when you see that I’m lowsy to date! Especailly for guys like you.”

“What do you mean ‘guys like me’?”

“Wild, crazy guys!” Katelyn tried to explain without being rude.

“I bet you that I’m not as wild and crazy as you think. You pick what you wanna do. So start thinking.” AJ finished startling to walk off.

“Do you want my number or not?” Katelyn shouted

“Oh yeah.”AJ sheepishly blushed.
