The Call

Two months later Brittney and Ashley were driving over to Nick’s again. “I thought Aaron was going to have to go home soon,” Lee commented.

“His mother keeps calling him and telling im that he really needs to come home soon,” Brittney replied, “but until she absolutely insists I don’t think he’ll leave.”

“That’s good. I know you want him to stay here with you for a while,” Lee said. “I’m gong to be so unhappy when Nick leaves on tour.”

“But you’re going to leave for college in a couple of mouths.” Brittney pointed out.

“I’m gong a few miles away he’s going a few hundred.”

“True. When Aaron goes home he’ll be in LA. That’s a long ways away.”

“Yep,” Lee replied as she pulled up to Nick’s house. They both got out of the car and went up to the door. Aaron let them in.

“Nick’s up in his room doing his hair,” Aaron laughed. He shook his head as Ashley went up to find him. “I have something I want to show you,” he told Brittney and motioned for her to follow him. They went up to his room and he gave her a piece of paper from his desk. “It’s a new song that I wrote.”

“That’s really sweet!” Brittney replied when she was done reading it. “It’s going to be a good song. Well, it should be, it depends on the music.”

“So you like it?”

“It’s so sweet. Are you going to have it on one of your CDs?”

“Eventually. If that’s okay with you.”

“Yea. Wait- would that mean you would have t say we were going out?”

“No. Not necessarily. I wouldn’t have to tell anybody that it’s about somebody real.”

They were both silent for a few moments as they looked d at each other. “Every time I sing it I’ll think of you.”

“I would hope so!”

“Yea, since it’s about you.” Aaron paused for a minute. “Actually when I sing most all of my love songs I think about you.”

“Who else would you think about?” Brittney demanded.

“Nobody.”

“Aaron, I want to know. I am your girlfriend.” “

Yes, I know you are my girlfriend. You are the only girl I talk to. Well, I mean, I talk with my fans, but not regularly.”

“I hope not!”

“Oh, stop worrying!”

“I can’t help but to worry,” Brittney worried. “It’s stressful having a boyfriend that is a celebrity. I have to worry because you could get like any girl you wanted. You could have a different girl over every day of the week and would anybody other than Nick ever know? No! You could sing all of your songs about a different girl….”

“Brittney! Stop worrying!”

“I can’t. It’s natural – I think. I just have to worry. It’s not that I don’t trust you it’s just that I don’t trust famous people because they are very often corrupt, not that you are but…”

“Brittney!”

“I can’t help it! Don’t you think that if I could stop I would? Worrying is not all that much fun. Really it’s no fun at all. I’m sorry. I know I’m babbling on and on but I just can’t shut-up. I’m just really nervous, I guess. Not about you. About other things. I’m just talking about worrying because I do worry but also I guess I’m just talking to talk. I wouldn’t worry about it so much if you weren’t this big celebrity with thousands of girls in love with you. I just can’t understand how I’m the only one.”

“Brittney.”

“Well, I can’t. It just doesn’t make since how a poor boy like you can have all those girls loving you and I’m the only one you want. It just doesn’t.”

Aaron had to shut her up. He leaned down and pressed his lips against hers so she couldn’t talk. At first she was quite surprised, but after a moment she kissed back. “Yea,” Aaron said, “all those poor girls would love that.”

“Yea, and so do I.” Brittney smiled kissing him again.

“Aaron!” A voice from the hall called. Footsteps came with the voice. They got closer and the person came into the room right after they said that. “Are you…what are you doing?”

Aaron wheeled around to face AJ. Brittney gasped. She hadn’t wanted AJ – or anybody – to see her first like that.

“I know you were kissing!” AJ rolled his eyes, not waiting for Aaron to answer, “But why? I thought you didn’t have a girlfriend, or was I just being lied to like everybody else?”

“I don’t have a girlfriend. No.” Aaron shook his head. “Nope. Oh. I’m sorry. I haven’t introduced you yet. AJ, this is my girlfriend, Brittney.”

“But you don’t have a girlfriend.”

“OF course not. Don’t you think I would tell everybody if I did?”

“Of course you would. Us celebrities are just like everybody else. We never lie.”

“Oh. No. Never. I couldn’t lie to all those women that love me so mush. I couldn’t…”

“I wouldn’t call them women, A.C., don’t flatter yourself by calling them that.”

“Are we about to go?” Aaron abruptly changed the subject. “I’m hungry.”

“We’ll go soon. Ashley is trying to help Nick find a shirt to go with his black pants.” AJ turned to leave. “Ya’ll keep on having your fun. I’ll come back up and tell you when we’re ready to leave.” He left the room shutting the door behind him. He laughed as he ran down the stairs to Amanda. “Are Nick and Ashley still busy in his room?”

“Yea.” Amanda sighed.

“I told Aaron and his girlfriend that Lee was helping Nick find a shirt to go with his black pants and they didn’t even bat an eye.” AJ laughed. “Actually they are up in Aaron’s room alone. They were kissing when I went in.”

“Kissing?”

“Yep. I think we need to find us a room, since everybody else in this house appears to be busy, we ought to be too.”

Nick bounded down the stairs. “Finally. I found a shirt I wanted to wear.”

“That’s good,” AJ replied. “Now if you can just go interrupt your younger brother’s make-out session we’ll be ready to go.”

“Make-out session?” Lee asked aghast.

“Okay, okay, it wasn’t really a make-out session, but they were kissing when I went in.” AJ admitted.

Lee turned and ran up the stairs to Aaron’s room and knocked on the door. Aaron opened it promptly and Brittney turned around from the other side of the room. “So you weren’t kissing?” Lee demanded.

“Not right then,” Brittney said. “Are we ready to leave, yet?”

“Yes, if you are?”

“Why wouldn’t we be?”

“Then come on!” Lee ran down the stairs back to Nick and the younger couple followed. “They weren’t even kissing.” She whispered as she caught up with her boyfriend.

“Good. We can kiss, but they can’t.” Nick said.

“Of course,” Ashley agreed.

“Neither can AJ and Amanda. It’s illegal for them to kiss too, but they don’t’ care. They do it anyway.”

“So do Aaron and Brittney.”

“Not as much.” Nick smiled.

“They don’t have the opportunity very frequently.”

“Do you hear about their every kiss?”

“I don’t know. Ask Brittney.”

“Brittney!” Nick called. “Has your sister heard about your every kiss?”

“I think so…”

“What! I told you to tell me.”

“I think….I don’t know!”

“You do too know!”

“May we discuss it later?”

“No.”

“Well, I think we should!”

“No. We have to talk about it right now!”

“I think we shouldn’t. I’m hungry. I want to go eat.” Aaron whined. “Let’s stop talking and leave.”

“Okay,” Lee sighed. “We will discuss it later. Don’t forget.”

“Yes sir!”

Nick laughed at Brittney’s last remark as he led his girlfriend out to the car. The three couples had an uneventful ride to the restaurant and uneventful dinner and all in all a very uneventful evening.
