What is a NAME BRAND or PROPRIETARY
COMPUTER??
It's the type you can buy at the big department and discount stores. They are ones you are used to hearing
about on the TV, Radio, Magazines, and in the Newspaper, and they are usually about the
same price as a clone, but you pay a BIG PRICE when it comes to them lasting
for years, or when it comes to changing anything
or upgrading them. You see, they make the parts, (the
few that there are), so that you can only buy them from them, therefore
they have a monopoly on you and those parts, and so
they jack the price up 6 to 10 times what you would pay for a normal
clone part!!
How can you tell it's a NAME BRAND
or PROPRIETARY COMPUTER??
Well, one way is by the NAME BRAND, but a more
Technical way to tell is to look at the back of the Computer!!
If you know what a Connection for a Devices is,
you will find them all in one line, either at the bottom of the Computer on the back,
or on the side on the back. What does
this mean? This means that the Parallel
Port, 2 Serial Ports, 2 USB Ports, Mouse Connector,
Keyboard Connector, Video Connector, Game Port
Connector, Sound Connectors, are all on one
Board, the MAIN BOARD, the most expensive part,
and the Brain of the Computer. This has all these things as part of the Brain of the Computer, and if one of these stops functioning, or it has a problem, you might as well buy a new computer, as they are going to charge almost as much for that board as you paid for the whole computer, and in some cases, MORE!!!
What is a CLONE COMPUTER??
It's the type usually you have never heard of,
but if you walked into a large Call Center or Corporation,
where they have thousands of Computers &
Operators working 24/7, you will most likely find Clones, because
Clones cost about the same initially, but over
time, they cost very little to maintain, because most of the Devices
connect to separate circuit boards which can
be replaced when that part or function fails. Also all those circuit
boards are made by lots of vendors which are
in competition with each other, so these parts are always VERY
economical!!! Also you can interchange or
upgrade anything in a Clone with an Economical part from those
vendors in competition to make your computer faster,
with more hard drive space, or just about anything you can
think of, but try this with a Name Brand, and
you will find a very Costly Venture that's probably next to
impossible, and a big headache!!!
There are lots more reasons than the above
to buy a Clone vs Proprietary, but we think we have given you a few
ideas, but more headaches come with Proprietary when it comes to Software, Drivers, Support, and Tech Support,
as they have a Monopoly
there too, where Clones are just the opposite!!
