Jessie's Girl
The origin of
Jesse's Girl can be traced back to a chance meeting between Fisher
Rose - Drummer and Dingo V. Chihuahua - Singer/Guitarist at a
local Vancouver drinking establishment. The two realized that they
shared a common penchant for the bottle, Rock & Roll and their
hatred of the working class drudgery and subservience to the
ruling elite.
In September '96
Dingo remembered his good pal Shane Impey. At first Shane was a
bit tentative. Who were these fellows who purported such
unconventional rhetoric as Equal work for equal pay; Rock &
Rock knows no nine to five and never trust anyone you wouldn't
drink with? By October, Shane had made up his mind.
The Kid Saunders
joined in January and marked the completion of the current Jesse's
Girl line up.
In May, the Girls
recorded their six-song demo: Guadalupe. It gained them praise
(mostly from friends). It was after their first show that they
realized their drink rider would not do, and began trading demo
tapes for drinks. Thus began a tradition that continues to this
day, reflecting Jesse's Girl's desire to avoid the trappings of a
currency despoiled by inflation and the sweat of the labouring
class, as well as their need for a good, stiff drink.
