October 2, 2000 - Monday
I had a quiet day today. Really, I did. I got up around 9:50 today and took my shower.
I watched a bit of Rosie O'Neill and then left a bit late for my lesson. I was
a little late, but my teacher didn't mind.
The lesson was great. I have problems memorizing things though. I'm trying to learn
the names of the days of the month, but it's difficult for me. I do find that I'm
understanding more and I'm not so afraid to try speaking Japanese, even if it isn't
perfect.
After the lesson I headed off to return my videos. On the way I stopped at the post
office to pick up some stamps and pay a bill. At the store I found 3 that I wanted
to see and then made for home. Unfortunately , it was pouring when I left the video
store so I put on my lovely blue rain cape. I went to the grocery store and picked up
a few groceries. Then I came home.
One of the first things I did when I got here was call my friend Susan. She just
arrived in Japan yesterday with her husband and she's having a bit of a rough time
with it. I don't think things are quite what she expected. Anyway, we talked for
a while and I think she felt better.
Then, I set to writing. I spent most of the day writing for the textbook. I still
have some more work to do on my story, but I finished the first draft of the other
stuff. I hope it goes through okay.
In the evening I watched Emma on TV. It was the Kate Beckinsale version which I don't
like as much as the Gwyneth Paltrow version, but Jane Austen is Jane Austen. Watching
those films makes me think about how similar Japan is to Jane's England. So much
is said with a nod or the touch of a hand. Hmm. That's rather deep, isn't it?
That's about it for me for tonight. I don't have a lot of things to say, so I'll
end this. Good night.
