January 15, 2001 - Monday
I had a pretty good day today. I got up and took a shower and went to my Japanese
lesson. I'm very lucky that I have a patient teacher as I had forgotten almost everything
that I had learnt. I had taken a month vacation from Japanese and I could really
feel it. I have to study. Will I ? I don't know.
After the lesson I decided to check out the video store to see if there was anything
that I wanted to rent. There was nothing that I wanted to see in the newer films
and I decided not to look at the older ones.
I thought about going to the mall, so I headed off for the train station. Well, it
was a nice winter's day today, not too cold at all, so when I passed the gate of
a shrine, I decided to go in. I climbed up a lot of steps to the top of a hill,
but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn't go in any of the buildings, but it really was enough
to just get to the top and see the view. It was lovely. I could see the ocean in
the distance and the shrine was peaceful, so just getting there was nice.
When I left I walked to the train station and was lucky enough to catch a train right
away. At the mall I grabbed a bit of money from my account and then went shopping.
I went to Doutours for a bite to eat and when I was there a lady tried to have a
conversation with me-in Japanese. I'm afraid I really just wanted to eat my curried chicken
sandwich, but I did try to be polite.
I walked around a bit more and bumped into one of my students and her mother twice.
I bought a new date book and another birthday card. I also got more magazines and
visited a glass shop I'd never seen before. I bought a hina doll set there and a
small present for a friend there.
I ate pasta for lunch along with a delicious glass of Iced Earl Grey Tea with Milk.
Yum.
Then I rushed off to see the movie. I went to see Get
Carter with Sylvester Stallone. I was in such a hurry that I didn't get any popcorn
or anything to drink. Sigh. Oh well.
After the film I was going to leave the mall, when I decided to get some bread, so
I went back to the bakery and got a bun for breakfast tomorrow. I got some other
stuff too, and it was darn good.
When I came home I watched a bit of TV, the stuff that I'd taped during the day, and
then around 11:30 made supper. I made pasta. I realized that it was my second time
eating pasta after it was in the pan, but no big deal. It was good stuff.
Then I wrote my movie review and then my entry. And that's it for today. I had a
good one. I'm almost sorry I have to go back to work tomorrow.
