     Alec Worthington, the CIA man behind the Iron Curtain in Prague, suddenly finds the climate disagreeable and wants out. The CIA is not worried as much about Worthington, as they are worried about putting a replacement in Worthington's place, without attracting suspicion. The answer is obviously a decoy, a dispensable agent. Someone like Mark Girland, who is greedy, unscrupulous and has a fatal weakness for women. But Girland has to be attracted to something genuine, for he can smell a con, a mile off. Besides, by now,  the notorious Malik of the Soviet intelligence has joined the chase for Worthington and Malik hates Girland. But Girland, wastrel and layabout that he is, is also astute, with an uncanny instinct to survive against the face of impossible odds...
