Timeline

1999

Erica was dealt a fate worse than death. Yes, she was horribly scarred in a car accident.

She decided that this was the perfect time to do a televised interview and announce her return to modeling. When asked about her facial injuries, Erica had no idea what they were talking about. Moi? What's wrong with my beautiful face? Dimitri and David took her to another room, and David removed her bandages. Erica screamed in horror! Oh, so that's what's wrong. Erica was taken back to the hospital and of course blamed her friends for not being honest with her.

Erica returned home from the hospital, covered half her face with a black mask, dolled herself up (think Phantom of the Opera in three inch heels), and began cutting her true friends out of her life, including Dimitri. It was obvious to her that real friends would have told her right away about the hideous jagged scar on her face. What could they have been thinking?

After the grand opening of the new night club, SOS, Dimitri was bothered by severe headaches. A few days later, he left for Europe. Dimitri called Edmund from Europe and told him he was returning to Pine Valley with a big surprise (oh, goodie, a surprise!) and to plan a welcome home party. After getting word that something was wrong with the plane, Edmund, Jack, Brooke, Erica and Gillian raced to the airfield and were shocked when Dimitri was wheeled off the plane on a gurney. The big surprise was that Dimitri was being written off the show! Welcome home Dimitri, now get lost, and take your fans with you.

Dimitri was rushed to the hospital and everyone was devastated when the doctor said that Dimitri was dead.

Devastation then turned to shock when a woman stepped forward and said that she was Alexandra Marick, Dimitri's new wife. Alexandra was a mutton-loving mysterious beauty who refused to let Edmund have an autopsy performed on Dimitri and was also insistent that Dimitri's coffin be kept closed.

Edmund remained suspicious of Alexandra and believed she was holding something back about the events surrounding Dimitri's death. Edmund became even more curious when he found Alexandra with one of Maria's medical books, and was shocked when he learned that Alexandra was a doctor.

She confessed that she had been treating Dimitri. Edmund was convinced that Alexandra was responsible for Dimitri's death, but she maintained that Dimitri had died of a brain aneurysm. A short time later, Edmund spied on Alexandra holding a vial of mysterious fluid. Edmund stole a sample of the fluid and took it to David and asked him to analyze it.

After analyzing the mysterious fluid Edmund had secretly stolen from Alexandra's medical bag, David told Edmund that the liquid was poisonous. Edmund then began to suspect that Alexandra had killed Dimitri and was stunned when he discovered that Dimitri's body wasn't in the crypt. Edmund confronted Alexandra, who admitted that Dimitri was alive and was being treated at Seaview Hospital. Alexandra explained that Dimitri didn't want his family to see him in his present condition, but Edmund insisted on visiting Dimitri.

Trying to appease protesting fans who wanted Dimitri back, The Powers That Be brought him back for a few more scenes.

Dimitri became agitated over seeing Edmund, but ended up telling him not to blame Alexandra for the promise he forced her to keep. Alexandra then told Edmund about an experimental treatment that could prolong Dimitri's life and Edmund convinced Liza and Jake to allow him to use their daughter Colby's stored stem cells for Dimitri's treatment. (Well, actually, Adam Chandler was Colby's real father, and he being opposed to his daughter losing any stem cells, ended up switching Colby's cells with those of another for Dimitri's treatment.)

Alexandra administered the treatment to Dimitri, who seemed to respond positively. A short while later, Alexandra and Edmund were shocked to discover that Dimitri was missing.

Alexandra and Edmund's worry then turned to shock and anger when they realized that Dimitri had walked into the ocean and ended his own life. Their proof for this was finding Dimitri's robe at the famous Pine Valley beach. Of course, the last time they saw him, he could barely lift a finger, but they assumed that he had hauled himself out to the ocean and walked into it, anyway. OK, Sherlock Holmes, they ain't.

Edmund and Alexandra blamed each other for Dimitri's death and the tension between them grew worse after Maximillian had to be put down after suffering a fall while Alexandra had been riding him.

Edmund and Alexandra were both shocked when Jack explained that Dimitri had established a medical foundation back in Pine Valley to be headed by Alexandra. Alexandra refused to head the foundation, but agreed to to help find a successor.

Erica was livid when she realized that David had known the truth about Dimitri and said she never wanted to see him again. That lasted for about two seconds, and she soon started planning a party to announce David as the head of Dimitri's foundation, a position Erica was sure David would be awarded.

Alexandra vowed that David would never head Dimitri's foundation, and was even more adamant about her decision after learning how badly David had treated Gillian. So, Alex was very disappointed when Joe announced that she and David would run the Andrassy Foundation together.

Alex reluctantly agreed to attend the Crystal Ball with Edmund, even though she made it clear that she didn't enjoy New Year's Eve celebrations. Alex was determined to leave the Crystal Ball by midnight, but David cornered her and demanded to know why she was acting so irrational around him.

Alex then flashed on a man's face and ended up pushing David down a flight of stairs at Wildwind.

Erica was stunned at Alex's actions, and so started to investigate Alex's past. Shortly thereafter, Erica revealed to Edmund and David that Alex had spent several years in a mental institution in Wales after suffering a breakdown. Alex told Edmund that she didn't have any recollection of why she had been at the institution and seemed reluctant to dig into her past. Alex did remember calling David "Geoffrey," but told Edmund she had no idea who Geoffrey was. Edmund vowed to help Alex and assured her that he would be there for her.

2000

Edmund and Alex learned that her medical records had been sealed by the British government. After experiencing another flashback of "Geoffrey," Alex feared that she had killed him. Alex was hypnotized by Rae and realized that she had seen Geoffrey kill his daughter -- and Alex's best friend -- Cassandra.

Edmund vowed to help Alex piece together the puzzle from her past and they grew closer. While at the mall one day, Alex was grabbed by an armed robber. Alex then stunned herself and Edmund when she expertly disarmed the gunman with her martial arts skills. Alex had no idea where she had learned those skills and feared that her life was spiraling out of control.

Edmund bought Alex a new stallion and she named him Scorpio. Edmund also hired Guy to be his new stable hand. As it turned out, Guy had been spying on Alex and Edmund.

Alex and Edmund traveled to Bryn Wydd in Wales, the institution where Alex had once spent some time. They learned that her medical records were forgeries. Alex encountered a housekeeper who warned her that Bryn Wydd wasn't a hospital at all. Soon thereafter, Alex and Edmund found the housekeeper dead and they returned to Pine Valley.

Unbeknownst to Alex and Edmund, Dimitri was actually alive and was being kept at Bryn Wydd. (And a BIG thank you to those who helped resurrect Dimitri!) Dimitri had fooled the doctors into thinking he was catatonic, but he was actually sending secret warnings to Alex and Edmund via the computer telling them to stay away from Bryn Wydd.

Back in Pine Valley, Alex seemed to recall knowing Guy from the past. Guy then received permission from his superiors to kill Alex. Guy rigged the fuse box at the hunting lodge and Alex was electrocuted but she survived. Guy tried to finish the job by strangling Alex to death but was thwarted by Edmund's arrival. He ran off, but later confronted Alex at the hunting lodge. Guy called Alex "Anna" and said he was going to shoot her. Alex managed to disarm Guy and in the struggle that followed, Guy was shot and killed. She left Gillian in charge of the body, and raced to Bryn Wydd, where Edmund had gone looking for Guy, to try and warn Edmund that his life was in danger.

Meanwhile, Edmund had been drugged and the people at Bryn Wydd planned to kill both him and Dimitri.

A woman named Charlotte, who appeared to be the leader of the operation, stepped in and saved Dimitri's life, but left Edmund there to die, knowing that the building was set to blow up. Luckily, Alex found Edmund and they escaped the building just before it was demolished in the explosion.

Alex and Edmund then went to see Alex's mother, who turned out to be Charlotte!

Charlotte continued to hold Dimitri hostage and planned on killing him by having her henchmen toss him out of an airplane.

Dimitri thwarted her evil plan by overpowering the henchmen and flinging himself out of the airplane, landing on the lovely Pine Valley beach.

Dimitri was still extremely weak from his illness, but was determined to save Alex and Edmund from Charlotte, who accepted Alex's invitation to come to Pine Valley. At this same time, Alex started having memories of a woman named Anna Devane and even began to think that she might really be Anna!

Edmund and Alex decided to go public with their relationship at Hayley and Mateo's wedding.

After the wedding, a hidden Dimitri witnessed Alex and Edmund in an embrace and was privately pained at their closeness.

A short time later, Edmund encountered Dimitri in the mausoleum at Wildwind and was shocked that his brother was alive. Dimitri forced Edmund to promise not to tell Alex that he was alive because he was certain he was going to die again.

Dimitri also told Edmund that he knew Edmund and Alex were in love and also warned him about Charlotte. Desperate to keep Alex safe from Charlotte and to expose her evil doings, Edmund and Dimitri enlisted Adrian's help to bring Charlotte down. At this same time, Charlotte had made her move against Alex and secretly drugged her.

Edmund and Adrian staged an elaborate scheme to beat Charlotte at her own game and were able to convince Charlotte that Edmund had been shot and killed.

Meanwhile, Charlotte held Alex at gunpoint and her memories started to return. Alex remembered being ordered to kill Anna Devane, her identical twin, but recalled that she couldn't go through with it. Charlotte then explained that Anna and Alex were sisters and that Charlotte had stolen Alex as an infant. As an adult, Alex was trained to take over Anna's life but failed in her mission and had her memory erased. Charlotte also shocked Alex with the news that they weren't even mother and daughter. Edmund suddenly arrived on the scene with the police and Charlotte was arrested.

David was shocked when he found Dimitri in his office one day. A short time later, Dixie was equally stunned to see Dimitri in the flesh. David wanted to treat Dimitri, who agreed if David didn't tell anyone he was alive. To that end, David told Edmund that Dimitri had died.

Dimitri also made Dixie promise not to tell anyone he was alive and although she disagreed, Dixie followed his wishes. David then enlisted Alex's help with Dimitri's case but didn't reveal the patient's identity.

Erica thought David was neglecting her and wasn't pleased by the secret he seemed to be keeping. Erica even accused David of having an affair with Alex! David surprised Erica with a ring and marriage proposal, but Erica turned him down when he refused to reveal what he was keeping from her.

Edmund (who had been duped by David into thinking that Dimitri had recently died) proposed to Alex and she accepted. Meanwhile, Dimitri seemed to be on the road to recovery and he was devastated to learn of Edmund and Alex's engagement. Dixie remained torn over keeping Dimitri's secret and almost told Edmund and Alex the truth several times. In the end, Dixie sent Alex to the hunting lodge as she knew Dimitri was there as well. Alex and Dimitri shared a joyous reunion and made love. Shortly thereafter, Edmund was crushed when he learned Alex and Dimitri had slept together.

Erica found out that Dimitri was alive, and of course, fainted. It didn't take her long, however, to start gushing to Dimitri. "Oh, you're my angel...my angel...say, what's Alex doing here? You back with her?" Quotable quote: (Erica talking about Alex) "Why is it that everyone so delightfully and blindly understands this woman? I mean, she collects men like hamsters. One of them dies and she reaches in the cage and grabs another one."

After Erica was done swapping pleasantries with Alex, it was David's turn to face the wrath of Kane. Oh yes, David knew that Dimitri, her one true love, was alive, but didn't tell her. One doesn't treat Erica Kane like that, does one?. Erica telling David how he compares to Dimitri: "You spent all your time with me trying to prove that you were the bigger man, that you were the better lover. Well, now that we're through, I can tell you the truth. You never even came close, not even once. Do i make myself clear, Dr. Strangelove?"

Dimitri's first public appearance after his latest "death" was at the party that Erica was throwing for Bianca. People were stunned to see that he was alive. Leo to Dimitri: "Looking good, Count Miracula!"

Erica, ever the gracious hostess, passed out barbs with a smile on her face. She was apalled that Dimitri chose to reunite with his wife, knowing it would hurt Edmund (and knowing that Erica still wanted him).

On the outside, Edmund appeared to accept Alex and Dimitri's relationship. Privately, Edmund blamed Dimitri for costing him Alex and even ripped Dimitri's plaque off the mausoleum wall at Wildwind.

Alex began to suspect that Edmund was having trouble accepting her and Dimitri's relationship, but Dimitri was certain Edmund harbored no resentment towards them. Well, there was that time when Edmund tried to choke Dimitri to death. Luckily, Alex came in a stopped him.

Edmund continued to be pained by Alex and Dimitri's relationship and even started seeing visions of his abusive "father" Alf, who urged Edmund to take what was his and kill Dimitri!

David had this brilliant idea that he would drug Tad at the Valley Inn dining room with Libidozone, hoping that Tad would then cheat on Dixie, which would then lead to Dixie turning to David. But, his plan was foiled when Erica picked up the drink and took a giant swig.

Uh-oh. Erica on Libidozone. And as luck would have it, there were three of her ex-boyfriends right there in the same room. So, she jumped on the piano in her slinky red dress, and crooned, "It's Alright With Me" to Dimitri, David and Jack.

They were stunned and amazed, but they did enjoy her performance.

At the yacht party, everyone in Pine Valley had shown up. Alex had seen David with the Libidozone at the party and left to look for Joe. That was the last anyone saw of Alex as she mysteriously disappeared from the yacht. Dimitri suspected that Edmund was involved with Alex's disappearance, but he adamantly denied the accusation.

Dimitri provoked Edmund into attacking him and then had Edmund committed to Oak Haven as a way of forcing him to tell the truth about Alex! Brooke was shocked by Dimitri's actions and was soon able to help Edmund and Dimitri reconcile. Dimitri and Edmund then teamed up to try and find Alex together.

At the Crystal Ball, Bianca was asked by a tabloid reporter if she was gay. After she confirmed that she was, Erica was mortified that now the whole world would know. Dimitri whisked her away, and took her to the hunting lodge, where Erica shared her fears with Dimitri. She also told Dimitri that all the men she had been with since him, had paled in comparison.
