April 2002 Forecaste

Forecast issued 11.01.2002

The start of the month will set the UK into a Zonal flow with low-pressure systems tracking across southern England and Ireland. There is a chance of cold air spreading into the north and east of Scotland as a weak high pressure develops over northern Scandinavia. Snow showers will be possible in the northern isles.

Week 2

Although staying unsettled the flow will become more northwesterly in nature. Cooler weather will move down across the whole country, as it becomes quite windy. Longer periods of rain will give way to more showery conditions. The showers may turn wintry over the northern hill at times. There is also likely to be some good sunny spells at times, with the risk of ground frosts over night.

Week 3

A strong north or north-easterlyy wind will develop down the East Coast where it will fell very cold. Showers will also run down the coast with the risk of hail and sleet. Southern and western districts will become mostly dry as the Azores high moves closer to the country. Systems will start to move into the west of Scotland later as a strong southwesterly develop.

End of the Month

Staying unsettled with systems tracking across Scotland. This will bring westerly or north-westerly winds. There will be showers or longer spells of rain. Drier spells will effect southern areas at times as high-pressure moves closer. There may be some night frosts and warm days in during the dry spells.
