EXCITING! : Pigs! No Electricity! Bon Dia! [Story of journey with truck and stupid branches] It's time for all participants to go to each village. I went with them to villages named Somoxo, and Tutuala. Anyway, we went by truck! Hah! It's a brand new experience for me. First I was afraid of the height, but I wanted to know more about Somoxo and Tutuala, everybody said that those two villages were special. Somoxo is known with the friendly people and Tutuala with the great scenery. So I got up to the truck, trembled but tried to act as if I got used to do so, but whoops! I almost felt down, and I think Kak Jay and Frits laughed about me (ngaku aja!). First, We shopped our daily needs in markado (market). I got confused with the money, I couldn't convert US$ to Rupiah easily. They mentioned the price in Rupiah, but we should pay in US$, anyway I'm not smart enough in counting, and I'm a bit allergic to numbers. Argh! After that we dropped Somoxo's team members in that village. It's true, the people are so friendly, and I felt so welcome there. Then we continued to Tutuala village. OMG! OMG! We could see beach (again!) and it was said that to reach the beach, it needed an hour walking. I stayed there only less than one hour. Another new thing… I saw pigs everywhere. heheh.. Funny! Then we went back to Los Palos with the same truck. I must watch the road carefully…. Coz there is so many trees that had branches low enough that could hit our head. I was hit once… Ouch! Stupid branches! (Uhm, well yeah.. Okay.. Stupid me actually! It was my fault not seeing the road). Anyway, Yuni tricked Kak Jay twice... with all of sudden she said to him,"LOOK OUT,KAK JAY!" the Kak Jay bent his knees and covered his head..., well the truth, there was nothing on the road.... [No electricity? No problem!] Compared to other villages, Los Palos is luxurious, a city. We still had electricity, even only for four hours. The electricity comes at 6 pm and goes out at about 10 pm (Timor Leste's time). We have enough water (but lazy to take a bath..), we have transportation facilities, We lived in a proper shelter. We have bathroom and toilet. Before I left my hometown, I had lots of list of things that I thought I can not live without: television, Computer (plus the internet connection) and telephone, those stuffs were like my second, third and fourth oxygen :D. But during my stay in Los Palos, I could proudly said ,"Who needs them?" because The house is always crowded with kids, in the morning kids from neighborhood came, played with us, helped us prepared teaching materials for peace school, helped us washing clothes and cooking (they're not really help, actually… sometime the messed things up.. heheh, but it's good to see them around)… The entertainment came from their voices and also from these Los palos' three jokers, Thomas, Eric and Sang Gag opa. They always created some silly dances and actions. What kind of dances or actions? well, I and Yuni tried to record them in photo box, and the result like what you can see in the front page of this site. If you want to see the dances and the actions 'live', just ask three of them to demonstrate.... (they'll be glad to show it) Anyway, the night's entertainment become more entertaining, when DeWe and Kak Delmi came (too bad you both only stayed a week!). Danny is a great guitar player (in my opinion who only master three keys when playing guitar,hehe)... I loved to hear he, Kak Delmi and Frits sang together and made harmony. Once I gave Danny compliment, "hey, you're cool!" but after that, he started to sang silly songs, he re-composed good songs, into some parodical songs... AISH! Tau gitu gak muji deh gue! [Bon Dia, Botarde, Bon Noite, Obrigada, Desculpa, Lisensa] May be you wondering what those words suppose to mean. Bon Dia means Good Morning, botarde means good afternoon, Bon Noite means Good Evening, obrigada means Thank You (and when we add barak, obrigada barak, means thank you very much), Desculpa means I'm sorry and Lisensa means excuse me. Other things are : Diak kalae (How are you?), Nate (stand up), Imire (sit down), Mokor-mokor (children), Kanta (sing!). What impressed me so much is, everybody greets everyone else, we don't have to know the people we greet. I can't imagine if I greet everybody like that in my hometown, may be people will look at me strangely, and they will think that I'm such a weirdo! From the time we got up, and got out of the room, to washing up and brush our teeth, at least we had to say Bon Dia more than twice to everyone we met. It happen too on the way we go to markado, or somewhere else, we greeted everyone, from old people to kids, vegetable sellers to public transportation's drivers. Nice.
