Nothing special happened in his life for a while. He had 2 twin sons with his wife Carmella, and then moved to America, to the town of Barstow. He moved here because they had a large laboratory that he would work in as one of America's top scientists.

His children disappeared mysteriously, and Jose Sr was always emotionally held back by the guilt, having blamed himself for leaving them alone. He and his wife started having problems because of his depression and almost constant work schedule. One day, an experiment went horribly wrong, mutating his body. He spent more than a week as a puddle before he mastered his new body and learned to turn himself back to normal. Having always idolized the superheros of his time, Aqua was more than happy to become one himself.
