Leslie Willis was a shock jock for a morning radio show called "Live Wire". Loud and rude, she despises Superman and everything about him, for three reasons (according to her): "First, he's never around when you need him. Second, everything is just so darn easy for him. And third, all he cares about is himself."
Now, of course, we know that's not true. But that does'nt stop Leslie. Using her radio show almost like an anti-Superman campaign, Leslie always complains about that "pumped-up freak of nature in a cape" every chance she gets, hoping to turn the city of Metropolis against the Man of Steel.
One night, celebrating the third anniversery of her radio show with a wild rally, a fierce electrical storm was brewing. The police and Superman tried to persuade Leslie to call the rally off, fearing the storm was too dangerous for her and the massive crowd. Leslie sneered at their warns, and encouraged the crowd to not listen to them either.
Suddenly, a giant lightning bolts began flashing through the sky, striking closer and closer. One struck the stage, electrifying the wires and lights all around it. Superman tried to push Leslie out of the way, but while Leslie was running, she accidentily stepped on a charged wire. The immense surge of energy through her permanetly bleached her skin white, her hair blue, and changed her into a being of pure energy.
Feeling her transformation was all of Superman's fault, but was also a great thing as well, Leslie dubbed herself "Livewire" and turned to a life of crime. She has the ability to alter her clothing by ionizing the air around her, as well as travel through powerlines and blast powerful energy bolts out of her hands and eyes.
Livewire does have her limits, though. She must recharge herself every few hours with electricity, and can be seriously injured by any contact with water.
