Andrea Beaumont was originally Bruce Wayne's first love as a young man. They met in the cemetery, where Bruce was putting roses on his parents' graves and Andrea was talking to her mother's grave. She also deduced Bruce was Batman when she saw Batman putting roses on the same grave Bruce did weeks earlier.
Bruce proposed to Andrea, and she was enthralled. Unfortunately, she later wrote to him saying she was too young to be married, and that he should forget about her. Crushed, he than turned back to the decision of avenging his parents' death, and became Batman.
Years later, Andrea returned to Gotham as the Phantasm, a vigilante who was murdering all the men in a gangster mob who murdered Andrea's father. One of the men later became the Joker, and both Batman and Phantasm found themselves in an epic battle agains the madman. They both realized who eachother were, but Andrea sadly disappeared with the Joker before a massive explosion took place. Although he knows Andrea is not dead, Bruce is still very sorry about losing her.
