If My Heart Had Windows Graphic

Album Information

  • Released: 1/25/88
  • Record Label: MCA

Singles

  • #43 - “You Saved Me” ----- Writers: Curtis Wright

The title track, a George Jones remake, became Patty’s first top ten single. It did little in the way of boasting Patty’s album sales. If this bad been 1998 instead of 1988, Patty would likely have been released by MCA for poor sales of her first two albums.

This was the high point of Patty’s stay at MCA.

Though it is not her highest charting single, “That Kind of Girl” became Patty’s biggest and most enduring hit of her MCA tenure. The title track became a solid hit, the other singles faired medicorely. In retrospect it was an early sign of MCA’s growing indifference regarding Patty’s career.

In another attempt to profit off of Patty’s success at Sony, MCA inlcuded her in its 20th Century Master series. Nine of the tweleve tracks can be found on her first greatest hits cd. Only “Little Bit in Love”, “The Night’s to Long” and “Blue Memory” were not included. “Jealous Bone” was on her Greatest Hits but was not included here. Not surprisely the cd did not chart.

For her first cd of new material three years Patty’s tried mixing in some blues and pop sounding cuts. The results were lukewarm. Critics, who raved about her four previous studio albums, gave “Strong Heart” only solid, unspectacular marks. Commercially the album debuted below expectations and Patty continues to struggle with getting radio airplay.

Mountain Soul

Album Information

  • Released: 6/26/01
  • Record Label: Epic
  • Produced by Emory Gordy Jr.
  • First Week Sales: 7,500
  • Peak Chart Position - #19

This mixture of traditional country, bluegrass, and mountain music is Patty Loveless' finest album. Made by a child of Appalachia as a labor of love, "Mountain Soul" won universal critical praise. As a testament to Patty's brilliant voice, 12 of the 14 cuts were recorded live in the studio. No overdubs or enhancements.

With no support from radio, sales started slow but fared better than the chicken pictured on the cover. Patty received word from the chicken's owner that a fox killed the chicken soon after the photo shoot.

  • Record Label: Epic
  • Produced by Emory Gordy Jr.
  • Peak Chart Position - # 20

It took Loveless 16 years to record a Christmas album. When she did, it was done her way. Filled with acoustic instruments and mountain sounds. Sounds like she remembered from her early childhood. Unfortunately though critically praised, commercial success was elusive.

  • Released: 9/16/03
  • Record Label: Epic
  • Produced by Emory Gordy Jr.
  • Peak Chart Position - #7

Singles

  • Current - “Lovin' All Night” ----- Writer: Rodney Crowell

Unable to get much action on radio, "On Your Way Home" started selling slowly and never recovered. It should be noted her record label had dropped half its artist roster and fired its Nashville office head a few months before the album's release. Whether this helped cause Patty's poor album sales or not will be determined with the sales of her next album.
