Trap Shoot For Huntington Disease

Trap Shoot For Huntington Disease

Chatham-Kent Area

The HD Trap Shoot is a very unique fundraiser for the Huntington Society of Canada. We are the only ones in Canada who do this type of fundraising for the Society.

This fundraiser got its start from my brother-in-law David. David and I are representives for the Society for the Chatham-Kent Area. We talked about doing something different, and David had the idea of a trap shoot. David is an avid shooter, and belongs to the Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club in Chatham. David's involvement with the Society, is that his wife Donna, has HD. Donna is my ex husband's sister. David is now on the board of directors of the club, and has spent a lot of time and hard work to make this fundraiser a success. I on the other hand know nothing about trap shooting, other then taking in pledges and keeping score during the event, so David has been good enough to write me out what you will see about the Trap Shoot, how it works, and about the club that has helped us to raise money to fight this deadly disease.

What Is A Trapshoot

Trapshooting is a shotgun sport, in which 5 partcipant(squad), are shooting together. There are 5 stations, laid out in a short arc, and at each station, 5 shots are taken at the clay birds. The machine throws the birds out at random angles, up to 45 degrees, when the shooter calls "pull". The birds exit the trap house(which holds the machine) at about 40 miles an hour. This is an extremely popular sport all over the world, and is a lot of fun, and keeps the skills of new and veteran shooters sharp.
We have all skills of shooters participating in our fundraiser, from 1st time shooters to members of the Canadian International Trap Team.

The Trapshoot for Huntington Disease is hosted each year by the Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club. Along with donations of door prizes from area business, and members of the Kent Cloverleaf, we do quite well. Over the last 9 years, we have raised over $50,000.00. We grow each year with new shooters and with media involvement. The Trapshoot for Huntington Disease has been advertised on local radio stations such as CFCO, CKSY, CKUE, AND CKCO-TV, as well as national magazines such as the Ontario Out Doors, and Canadian Shooting Sports, and on NBC affilate WDIV in Detroit, Michigan.

Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club

The Kent Cloverleaf Club has been in Chatham since 1964. When the members and executives committees were approached on hosting the Huntington Trapshoot, they all jumped in whole-heartedly. Their support has been tremedous, from advertising to coaching, to raising money.

Along with that we offer outdoor and indoor archery as well as a premier 7 port pistol range. All of our ranges exceeds the requirements for the Federal Government. The members enjoy 24 hour access to the clubhouse, the archery and pistol ranges. Trap is open every Thursday night, and Saturday. Skeet is open every Sunday from noon till four.

We are a family oriented club, and we welcome all shooters of all ages, as well as those interested in conservation projects.
