Chuck Xavier
Charles "Chuck" Xavier, age 20

Who Are You?

Charles "Chuck" Xavier was a child prodigy who graduated college by the age of 16.  Known for his uncanny hunches and personal charisma, Xavier accepted a job with the international news branch of the Associated Press.  He was covering U.S. involvement in former Yugoslavia, when he met the remarkable Eric "Lenny" Lensherr, who realized that there was more to "Chuck's" hunches than he realized.

Realizing that there was something strange - and yet common to both of them, the two decided to stay together, moving to New York, in order to research the strange pheonomenon.  Xavier is currently schoolteacher in the NYC public school system.

Xavier's mental pheonomenon didn't go entirely unnoticed, and caught the attention of famed hypnotist "Sillohette" who invited the young Xavier into the Legion as a sidekick. Although the two disagree often, both believe in the search for hope and are deeply concerned about the Legion's problems.

What do you want?

Driving Xavier is the deep sense of lost hope - and the struggle to recapture it.  Having seen more of the world than most of his generation, he refuses to believe that even in the worst conditions there can be no hope.  Xavier also wants to some day get his doctorate in education.

Who do you serve?

Xavier is currently a low-man on the totem pole in the Legion.  Although he does not hide his affiliation with that organization, neither does he brag about it.  He currently is employed by the city of New York as a schoolteacher.

Who do you trust?

His friend, Lenny, his mentor, Sillohette.

Erik Lenshier
Eric "Lenny" Lensherr, age 23

Who Are You?

Eric Lensherr was born to a middle class Muslim family in Yugoslavia.  A survivor of the Serbian death-camps orchestrated by Slobodan Milosevic, the young man lost his faith in Allah during his months behind barbed wire, where he saw his mother, father, and little sister die.

Soon after his liberation by UN forces, Lensherr, who could speak fluent English, was approached by a young reporter from the Associated Press, Charles Xavier.  Xavier instantly knew there was a secret that Lensherr was hiding - the secret which had kept him alive - that he could exert weak magnetic forces through the force of will alone.

With no home to return to, Lensherr moved to New York, and currently works as an orderly at St. Vincent's Hospital.

What do you want?

Lensherr is a man of contradiction.  He desperately wants friends but keeps everyone at a distance to his true feelings.  He is intelligent and well-read, but cannot stand the confines of academia.   He works in a job where he helps people recover from trauma, but still has wounds unhealed of his own.

Who do you serve?

Lensherr serves no one, except the staff of St. Vincent's hospital.

Who do you trust?

His friend, Chuck.

Matthew Parker
Page 1 Journalist, Daily Bugle, Age 34

Who Are You?

Matthew is the cynical, bitter reporter in charge of covering issues with Adventurers, including the Legion and other vigilantes.  Although relentless, biting, and mildly unpleasant to be around, Parker is known for being tough, but fair, constantly walking a fine line between pleasing his editor, Jacob Jameson Sr. and his sense of objectivity.  Parker will not misconstrue, omit, editorialize or libel any person - that does not mean that he will not choose certain people (read: Legion members) for extreme scrutiny.

What do you want?

More than anything, Parker wants the newspaper to compete on a level commesurate with the New York Times - for now, he'll just have to settle for the New York Post.  He drives to get his work published, and wants to take a more active role in editorial decisions.  Parker pulls in 65+K a year, and loves what he does, and that's not bad for a guy who grew up in Queens.

Who do you serve?

Parker relies on his boss, Jacob Jameson, Sr. to pay the bills, thus, he's not entirely free to follow leads that are presented to him.  Jameson keeps Parker on a leash, to be sure, but it's a somewhat long leash.

Who do you trust?

Matthew has a wife, Lily Jones Parker, as well as extended family in his brother in law, Owen, and his wife, May.  Lily is expecting their first child in March.  They plan to name it Peter if a boy, Patricia, if a girl.

Jacob Jameson, Sr.
Owner, Daily Bugle, Age 78

Who Are You?

The owner and editor of the Daily Bugle, Jacob Jameson believes in the ethics of a simpler era. - there is a right and wrong code of behavior.  "The Golden Rule" is a right code of behavior.  "An Eye For An Eye" is not - and that's what he believes the vigilantes of the Legion do every night.  After losing his first-born daughter in a robbery that was botched due to the interference of a sole masked man (who died along with Jameson's daughter and three other hostages) Jameson has sworn to expose the Adventurers for the common thugs they are.

If you avoid getting on his bad side, Jameson isn't a bad guy - he's hard hitting, tough, and even a bit abrasive, but he's willing to give new reporters a chance and fledgeling reporters a mentor.  There are even rumors that Jameson himself was invited into the legion in 1975, a year before his daughter's death - rumors that Jameson vigorously denies.

What do you want?

Although it's nice to think that masked men will rescue a citizen in peril like some... modern day Purple Pimpernel, the plain truth is, Adventurers cause more trouble than they solve.  They get in the way of the cops, disturb crime scenes, and can cause deadly standoffs in otherwise calm situations.  It's for that reason that Jameson uses the Bugle's editorial article to write scathing editorials against the Legion as a whole, and against specific members individually, believing that the pen is mightier than the mask.

Who do you serve?

Jameson is driven by the memory of his deceased daughter and his devotion to the story.  Although he answers to no one, he has a higher calling and will not deviate from that path.

Who do you trust?

Jameson has a son, J.J., who stands to inherit the business (if not his father's morals) and looks over his staff with care, putting full trust in anyone he's taken care to mentor.

Neil Brooks, "Sillohette", age 60

Who are You?

Neil Brooks is a wealthy landowner who believes he comes from a line of ancient warriors with the powers to confuse or strengthen men's minds through a form of hypnosism - it is this technique that he weilds that enabled Rome's military dominance through disiplines against the Carthaginian Hannibal, with whom he believes still lives on through reincarnation.

Brooks has been active in crime fighting since the early 1940s, under the name "Sillohette" and has been an active member of the legion since the 1960s.

Currently, Brooks has a sidekick, the talented young Xavier, who has the potential to mold mens minds even more powerfully than he can - a fact that forces him to keep Xavier in check. There's no telling when the young Xavier will become his Brutus to strike him down.

What do you want?

Currently, Sillohette is the leader of the "Overtist" movement in the Legion, beliving that the public will trust them once more if they become more active in solving crimes, despite what the Bugle opinion polls say. He also believes that they should never reveal thier true identities to the public, arguing that more people trust in the name "Sillohette" than anyone would for Mr. Brooks.

Who do you serve?

Sillohette serves what he believes the Legion's best interests are, commanding men's minds more through machiavellian manipulation than mastery of mesmerism, as far as internal politics go. He's also got a bit of angry streak, which he takes out on the criminal underground.

Who do you trust?

It's not wise to trust anyone too much, but those in your service damn well better be faithful when called upon to repay the favors that have been granted to them.

Chosen, age 13

Who are You?

Timothy Doe - he's never had any other name, was left on the doorstep of a nunnery when he was a child. An orphan growing up in the ghetto, the chances of him being adopted at his age are slim to none. Teased and picked on for his very pale skin (in the right light, it even has a bit of a bluish hue) Doe turned to religion... and slowly went insane.

Three weeks ago, he ran away from home, living on the streets of New York, talking to himself, carrying an old, worn copy of the Bible, reading Revelations over, and over again, suffering from the delusions that God talks to him and him alone. Now, he's out to prove that God does not just "throw away" people like him, he believes that, in fact, God has Chosen him, at which point he threw away his old name, and insists people call him Chosen.

What do you want?

Once, Timothy Doe looked for food, shelter, and a place to sleep. Now he wants nothing but God's "Love" - the love of the vengeful, "Old Testiment" God. He believes that God has put him in an area ripe with disease, hunger, infestation, and death for a reason... and he will find that reason - and fulfill his destiny.

Who do you serve?

God.

Who do you trust?

God. And no one else, cause they'll just screw you over in the end.

"Doc" Stalwart, age 93 (picture circa 1969)

Who are you?

Matthew "Doc" Stalwart, first of the Adventurers, founder of the Legion, the Man of Copper.

And dying.

Despite a career spanning over 75 years, Stalwart is sick and dying. He is at the end, on his deathbed and knows it. The man who defeated the most twisted creations of the mad scientists - the man who discovered the lost city of gold - the man who almost singlehandely defeated most of the Nazi Ubermenchen in WWII - the man who had cheated death a hundred times over... is dying.

Despite a brilliant mind and a brilliant physique, Stalwart is little more than a political figurehead for his two sons, Fred and Ben Stalwart, who run the legion while the old man's face is the picture that they try to get on the nightly news. They are the leaders of the "Containment" faction - the idea that the Legion must scale back it's activities towards the realm of petty-theft and other minor crimes, and leave tense situations to better trained authorities. They furthermore belive that an unmasking of all adventurers is nessessary for the public to trust them again.

What do you want?

He hopes that the legion will survive longer than he will - hopefully for as long as their hope is needed. All in all, he longs for a return to simpler times, but his most pressing needs are a soft pillow, rest, and warm soup...

Who do you serve?

Matt Stalwart serves no one, not out of wish, but out of lack of utility. He sometimes goes on the lecture circuit, but even those are draining.

Who do you trust?

Matt Stalwart trusts his sons implicitly, as well as most of the body of the Legion, as a whole. He believes that people, as a rule, can be trusted.
"Iron Mask", age and real name unknown

Who are you?

No one knows who the Iron Mask really is - only that he's big, brutal, and currently responsible for the deaths of over 20 known underworld figures - mostly small time drug dealers.

He's known to use high explosives, knives, guns, and a costume made of bulletproof material and a reflective metal mask, armoring his skull.

What do you want?

His motives are inscrutable, the best anyone can figure, he's a guy who's seen too many movies and has gone over the edge.
