Anti war activists to shut down British Command and Control base
Britain to give up war for International human Rights Day!
Hundreds of determined anti-war activists will gather at 7.30 am next Monday
10th December, International Human Rights Day, at British Military Joint
Forces HQ Northwood in a nonviolent blockade aimed at closing the base and
halting Britain's military aggression around the world.
Andreas Speck, one of the organisers of the action, said, "People are coming together in nonviolent action to disrupt the smooth running of the war machine. Our message for International Human Rights Day is aimed at people all over the world, soldiers and civilians. There is nothing inevitable about war.
Ordinary people can stop this war, people can stop war all over the world by
refusing to co-operate. Pilots can refuse to drop cluster bombs, daisy cutters and all the warmongers' instruments of misery. Civilians can do what we are doing, get together with others and obstruct the war machine."
Amnesty International and Mary Robinson, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights last week criticised Britain and the US over their new "anti terrorism" measures and called for an inquiry into the slaughter at Qala-i-Jhangi. (1)
The action is sponsored by London Region CND, Youth and Student CND,Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp and London Catholic Worker.

Anti war activists disrupt and inspect British terror base
Two anti war activists, Rosie Bremmer and David Heller entered British Military Joint Forces HQ Northwood, NW London at 8 am to "check what they
were up to" and to register their opposition to the slaughter being meted out on Afghanistan from Northwood. They were arrested and taken to Rickmansworth Police Station.
Six other activists have been arrested at the blockade. Three activists, Ciaron o' Reilly (who disarmed a B52 bomber in 1991), Sr. Susan Clarkson,
and Scott Albrecht (ex US Air Force) were arrested on criminal damage charges after daubing the sign at the entrance to Northwood with a red
substance and scattering photos of dead Afghan children. They then knelt before the sign in prayer for the dead.
O'Reilly said, "We have transformed this military sign into a shrine for the dead, the past, present and future victims of the state terror that
flows from this military base."
Another activist was arrested for climbing the fence and two more for aggravated trespass for crossing the road outside the base. Other activists
from the crowd of 40 or 50 crossed the road but were dragged back to the other side by police. The main gates were blocked for four hours.
Andreas Speck, one of the organizers of the action, said, "Today the smooth running of the war machine was disrupted. On International Human
Rights Day we dragged this headquarters of terror and human rights abuses out blinking into the public glare. Nonviolent, direct esistance to
militarism will continue in Britain and all round the world. Our message to people working inside the base and serving in British forces is that
they have far more in common with the people who they are killing than the people who order them to kill. We ask them to take personal
responsibility for their actions, as we do, and reject this war."
The action is sponsored by London Region CND, Campaign Against the Arms Trade, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Youth and Student CND, Aldermaston
Women's Peace Camp and London Catholic Worker.
