Relationship

Edmonton is the capital city of the province of Alberta. It is located at the very edge of the Prairie ecozone. The population of Edmonton was 937 845 in 2003, or 24% of the total population of the Prairie ecozone. This city has great affects on the ecozone. One thing that Edmonton does to the ecozone is attract more people, therefore, increasing the air pollution. In Alberta, 76.2% of the employees drive to work. And in most of those vehicles going to work, they only have one person in the car and do not carry any other passengers. Another negative aspect to Edmonton is that it is a growing city. This means that they would have to use more the fertile land for commercial and residential areas. This urbanization is also a positive characteristic to the city. This allows for the city to produce and make more of a profit. It would give more people the opportunity for jobs. Since only 10% of the population are farmers and most of the land has already been cultivated, this growing trends seems very profitable.
