Kolej
Za'ba, the Seventh Residential College in the campus of University Of Malaya
was built in 1974 and officially declared open by Datuk Dr. Dr S M Alhady on the
7 December 1975. Strongly influenced by a Japanese style, the design of Kolej
Za'ba was made such that it emphasizes not only the purpose of convenience but
also the artistical values. Built on a downward slope puts an extra credit to
Kolej Za'ba. Its easy accessibility has made Kolej Za'ba special and unique for
being the only residential college in University Of Malaya that is able to
accomodate the "less fortunate students".
Balai Za'ba, an open stage suitable for all kinds of cultural performances was
erected ten years after the birth of the college. Officiated on 6 August 1985 by
University Of Malaya's Vice-Chancellor, Royal Professor Ungku Aziz; the
multi-purpose Balai Za'ba has a pure traditional touch of Minangkabau's
arcitechture and is well equipped with basic ligthings and sound systems.
The
Administrative team of Kolej Za'ba is headed by a College Master and he is
assisted by five supervisors who are University officials and members of the
academic staffs. Kolej Za'ba is home to a total of 600 students, which comprises
of undergraduates, post-graduate students as well as exchange students from
countries all over the world.
In line with the integrated education's concept of producing all-rounder
graduates especially in the tertiary level, Kolej Za'ba offers a lot of
oppurtunities for the Za'bahans to develop their leadership potentials,
individual skills and interests.Among the renown projects run by the
undergraduates here are the Asia-Pacific Conference, National Varsity
Counselling, Za'ba Quarter Marathon and Minggu Kecemerlangan Islam Kebangsaan.
In addition to managing projects, Kolej Za'ba has proven great achievements in
sports, oratory (debates, recitation of poems) and fine arts . Kolej Za'ba never
dreams of being the best. Instead , to be consistently extra-ordinary is the
main target that rarely fails to be fulfilled. This explains the attraction
Kolej Za'ba has been for years - a college envied by all and still awaiting its
defeat till this day.
The
magnificence of this Kolej Za'ba lies not in its bricks and mortar that holds
the college but in the Semangat Za'ba - a empowering spirit deeply implanted in
the hearts of every Za'bahan. Semangat Za'ba means everything to a Za'bahan -
the fighting spirit, the strive for the best, the pushing of one's limit but
most importantly the endurance of pure loyalty. The determination and the zest
for life has made Kolej Za'ba excell tremendously in all fields.
This tradition of excellence is built through a long history and not by a single
victory. Any Za'bahan dares to watch the bricks and mortars collapse, but not
the Semangat Za'ba. To rebuild the spirit all over again is not as simple as
designing a new building. That is why -
Once a Za'bahan, always a Za'bahan |
