Career and Studentship

I am currently studying at the university of Bahrain as a fifth year student and I am on my way to get the B.Sc. degree in computer science, with any bit of luck, sometime this year. At the moment, I don't have clear future plans.

Courses I am taking

As a student in the computer science department I took a lot of courses offered by the department most as compulsary courses and few as optional.
In fact, these courses had added alot to my computing experience and by this time I am a proficient programmer having knowledge of Pascal, C, C++, Assembly language, Java, Visual Basic, relational databases, multimedia and web related technologies. The following is a concise but not comprehensive list of the groups of courses I have taken with a brief description of each:

Computer Architecture
Provides a deep insight into the main inner components of a computer and the way in which these components interact or work togather. Topics covered include: the general purpose machine, machine language, some real machines, processor design, computer arithmatic, memory system design and lots more.

Logic Design
The course sets sigths on the gate-level logic circuit analysis and design, small and medium scale integrated circuits as building blocks with emphasis to the design of combinational circuits, memory elements to provide an insight into timing considerations, and analysis and synthesis of sequential circuits.

Systems Software
The course is aimed at teaching the algorithms, data structures and the different design alternatives of each piece of system software.

Programming Courses
These include: Pascal, Assembly language, C, C++, Java and Visual Basic.

Information Systems and Software Engineering Courses
Information Systems is actually the focus of several courses that aim at teaching the concepts related to this subject. Examples on topics Covered include the meaning of an Information system, types of information systems, viewing an Information system in the larger complete system, analysing the feasibility of a system and systems life cycle stages, with a bit of concetration on the analysis and design phases.

Database systems
Again, there are many courses discussing database systems related issues. Example topics covered include: the fundamentals of database modeling and design, the languages and facilities provided by database management systems and system implementation techniques.

Multimedia System
Covers the various components of a multimedia system and teaches some multimedia applications as well as that it provides an extensive coverage of developing multimdeia programs and packages using special software.

Network and Internet Concepts
General networking courses introduce basic network concepts such as types of networks, the concept of netwok physical and abstract parts, network cabling, topologies, network standards, the layered achitecture of a network, indiviual network layers and more.
Internet concepts course is supposed to teach students the basic concepts that relate to the Internet, introduce them to basic web programming and provide them with all the information they need to understand and even implement different types of web-based applications. Examples on topics this course covers: history of the Internet, computer networks and how the Internet differs, TCP/IP, HTTP and client server model, search engines, Internet security, HTML, ASP, scripting and others.

Example Projects I have done

A Java Applet that simulates the towers of Hanio problem.

A multimedia package that is intended to introduce the basic concepts of physics.

The design part of a payment system for a medical clinic.

The design part of a registration software system.

An interactive flash game that teaches children about basic projectile motion as well as other learning activities of both physics and biology at the same time.

Currently working on my Senior Project, in which I'll develop a web shopping mall using XML technology and Java.
