Profile of the USC-Biodiversity Research Group
The USC-Biodiversity Research
Group is a model research and training unit in the fields
of ecology and tropical forestry. Its objective is to
train local scientists and to answer developmental needs
of the Philippines. History: The USC-BRG begun its operation on June 23, 1988 (originally named USC Botany Research Group). It started as a research unit intended to train university teachers in actual projects. Soon thereafter, there was a need to add permanent personnel to run the office smoothly and to assume larger projects and consultancies. With each new project, additional equipment, literature and work experience were acquired. Research: The BRG has specialized in Tropical Ecology, Bio-diversity (flora and fauna inventories), Forestry concepts and Ethnobotanical research (see areas of specialization). |
