Staff-Student Cricket Match in PMC Faisalabad

In order to promote healthy recreational activities, Teachers vs Students cricket match was played in Punjab Medical College Faisalabad in April 2002. It was a limited overs tennis ball match. Principal Dr Obaid Ullah Khawaja "won" the toss and decided to bat. Teachers opened their innings with Prof Shuja Tahir and Prof Obaid ullah Khawaja. Prof Shuja Tahir hammered the ball all around the ground and it was a pleasure to watch his innings. However he offered very soft chances which students failed to avail with the reasons better known to them. He scored 75 runs & later declared as man of the match.

Prof Obaid ullah played very well and pocketed 50 runs. However his dismissal was soft one and fielder tried his best not to grab that dolly catch. Prof Hafeez Chaudhry played only few balls and scored few runs before he retired himself. Prof Tariq Salahudin played very cautiously and produced some good strokes. Dr Shehzad Shams, Dr Rana Qaiser, Prof Farooq Mian played very well and added valuable runs. Dr Zahid Masood added profitably to ever increasing total.

Dr Asghar Butt made the match a grand entertaining event by his comments on the mic. Almost all teachers of the college witnessed the match. This includes Prof A.G.Rehan, Prof Irshad ul Haque, Prof Z.Y.Hashmi, Prof Asghar Randhawa, Prof Maqsood Khan, Dr Janbaz, Dr Khurram Raja, Dr Mohammad Aslam & Dr Naeem Aslam.

Dr Anjum Mehdi was the umpire and was declared as 'most unmoved' umpire. Teachers scored 210 runs in 20 overs. In return students played professionally and took full advantage of the age factor and showed the teachers side various corners of the ground. They achieved the target in 15 overs. A large number of students from all the classes watched the match and added their voice by cheering and shouting. This is a good tradition and hope it will continue in future.
