New Board Members
Tim O'Connor's love for Grosse Ile began in the early 1980's when, while still living in Detroit, his firm sold typewriters to the Grosse Ile Schools. He came here as a repairman and often drove around for a while before returning to the city, thinking this must be a great place to live. He had no idea at the time that he would one day live here. That day came in 1995 when he, his wife Ute, and their daughter Ursula moved into a new condo on Nancy's Blvd. Now living on Island Blvd, Tim was encouraged to work on Conservancy issues at the prodding of his in-laws, Margarete and Ingo Hasserodt. Tim's employment as an environmental specialist with NTH Consultants, LTD has come in handy on local projects, including his work on developing the Humbug Marsh Visitors Center and the Grosse Ile Nature Area trails. Victoria Murphy has lived in Grosse Ile for 22 years, raising three children here with her husband, Dan. She is a lover of gardens and the outdoors, and became interested in the GINLC as a way to better understand and promote access to the natural resources of the island. She is also an Advisory Board member of Vista Maria, Michigan's largest private not-for-profit child welfare agency for girls and their families; a Board member of the Grosse Ile Educational Foundation, a volunteer non-profit community organization committed to life long educational experiences for the students and families of Grosse Ile; and a member of the Grosse Ile Herb Society, an educational society to help the community learn and experience the value of nature and herbs. She works in the Detroit office of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Marketing and Sales. |
