While investigating the murder of his father, Terry McGinnis sought out the help of elderly Bruce Wayne, whom Terry had discovered was the original Batman.

Although Wayne strictly forbade Terry to assume the identity of Batman, the former crime-fighter relented after Terry "borrowed" the supercharged Batsuit and used it to bring retribution to his father's killers, Derek Powers and Mr. Fixx.

Having proven himself a worthy inheritor of the name of Batman, Terry continues to act as Gotham City's dark avenger.

By his own admission, Terry was once a "bad kid." Part of a street gang run by youthful racketeer Charlie "Big Time" Bigelow, Terry got into a lot of trouble while in his early teens, and even did three months in juvenile hall.

Now a few years older and determined to never make the same mistake, Terry sees his ongoing commitment to Batman as his chance to redeem himself and others, who might be drifting toward a life of crime.

The highly-advanced Batsuit that Terry wears as Batman both accentuates the boy's natural physical prowess and provides him with a veritable arsenal of crime-fighting weapons.

The suit is equipped with jet boots and retractable wings for limited flight, magnetized soles enabling the wearer to hang upside down like a bat, compacted Batarangs which shoot out of a housing of the suit's wrists, audio and video uplinks to the Batcomputer, fingertip microphones for eavesdropping, hand sensors for instant chemical analysis and a network of advanced circuitry which allows the wearer to increase his strength many times over.

The suit is also bullet proof against most small caliber weapons and resistant to moderate laser attack.
