After months of watching two of the best films I had ever seen, I finally found Day of the Dead on video for £3.99, the sequel I had been so eager to see. I knew straight away that I would probably enjoy this film less as I was simply spoilt by Night and Dawn. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Day of the Dead failed on absolutely every level for me - I hated the characters, the music, the setting, the atmosphere. As soon as I finished watching it I ran downstairs, got on my computer and put the VHS up for auction at eBay.
Months went by and I still hated Day. It wasn't until it came on TV that my attitude changed. Channel 4 were running a FEAR season over Christmas 2001 and Day was one of the films that was showing. Bear in mind, at this time I was contemplating shutting down my Dawn site due to lack of visitors. Anyway, the film came on. I can't express how shocked I was. It was as if I were watching an entirely different movie. I loved every goddamned, blood-filled minute of it. I suppose you can say it was the savior of my site.
Many critics have said that Day improves over time, and I couldn't agree any more. In fact, I consider Day to be better than Night now, a feat I thought would be impossible 1 year ago.
It is with great pleasure that I can present to you - DAY OF THE DEAD
