For the first time, the original writings of J.M Barrie will be bought to the big screen. And what a better time than the 100th anniversary of Peter Pan?

P.J Hogan, an Australian director (Muriel's Wedding and My Best Friends Wedding) is in charge. He has agreed to stick by the original story and also another first, the role of Peter Pan will be played by a boy, Jeremy Sumpter, best know for his work in Frailty as the younger brother.

The story is set in London, the Darling's families eldest child and only daughter, Wendy is told to grow up after telling stories about Peter Pan's adventures. The night before she has to 'grow up' Peter arrives to retrieve his shadow (caught when Mrs. Darling found it and locked it in a drawer one night when Peter was listening to Wendy's stories) Wendy wakes up and asks Peter where his mother is, he tells her he has no mother and Wendy feels sorry for him.

Peter then invites Wendy and her brothers to Neverland, a place where there are no rules and you will never grow up, a place where there is adventure everyday. Peter tells Wendy she can be the mother to him and all the other lost boys to which Peter is leader. Not being at a better time than on the eve of her 'growing up', Wendy agrees. Peter tells her once she leaves, she can never come back. Wendy hesitates, then agrees once more.

And so begins the flight to Neverland, with a bit of Pixie Dust supplied by Peter's fairy, Tinkerbell and a few happy thoughts, the Darling children can fly as well as Peter.

When arriving on the island filled with adventure, the children realize that there is a never ending war with the notorious pirate, Captain Hook, along with his pirate crew of the Jolly Roger. Hook wants Peter dead after Hooks hand was eaten by a hungry crocodile, and was replaced by a metal hook, hence the name, Captain Hook.

The children enter Neverland

After spending a while in Neverland, Wendy realizes she is starting to forget her mother, just like all the other inhabitants of Neverland. She then knows that she to (and her brothers) will be forgotten and there will be no escape from Neverland from then on. Wendy remembers Peter's warning, "but you can never come back" and she now must find a way how to get back home safely before she is forgotten, but the fight with Hook must come to an end first....
