October 1963

1963 was a year to remember for a variety of reasons. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech, a group of engineers at Boeing formed to develop the Boeing 747, and frequent UFO sightings were reported by the good citizens in Haskell County, Texas.

I hear there were some good wines that year - but that's not what I'm talking about either). I was born to Jack and Trulah. Early years were spent in the bay area of Houston and then on to Conroe for high school. Space and aviation made a huge impression on me early on - NASA was just across the street, and I knew many of the Apollo astronauts and played football with their kids. From there, our family visited many places including Mexico, California and Florida. When I was a teenager, I visited Israel and Egypt for a summer and took part in an archeological dig.
