Subj: Grolemund?!

Hi cousin,
Yes, I guess the source is Switzerland. I found the same to be
true that it was originally spelled "Grolimund" and that the name is
from the South East section of Switzerland where the spoken language
is ROMANSCH.
Years ago, I spoke with an elderly man (70+?) in the Hofbrauhaus
in Munich. He told me that my name was definitely DEUTSCH and that
it translated from altdeutsch as GOLDEN MOUTH (equivalent of silver
tongue).
A few years later, I was in Lucerne and I was talking to a member
of the burgermeister's staff. He told me my name was definitly
SCHWEIZ. and gave me the information about the location and the
language of ROMANSCH that I had never heard of before.
A cousin of mine, on my mother's side, has done a lot of research
on her ancestry. She told me that she saw my greatgrandfather listed
in the county records. In one census, he listed as being from Baden,
Germany; and in another as being from Switzerland (don't remember the
town).
If you're interested, we can compare notes. I am originally from
Snydersburg, Clarion County, in mid-western Pennsylvania. I was
baptized at St. Joseph's Church in Lucinda, where I also attended
school with the Benedictine nuns for 12 years before I went to West
Point in 1959. My parish recently published a very detailed history
of the Knox township listing all of the begats and begots, maybe
leaving out a few or giving the credit/blame to the wrong father in
some cases, who knows. It was extremely informative.
My father was Sylvester Bernard. Some of his brothers were
William Henry (aka Harry), Claude or Clyde, Howard, and a total of
about 12 children. His father was Andrew, his mother was Rose Gannon,
and that's all I remember without looking it up. I have cousins
named Don and Bob (Harry's sons) who were from Rochester, NY.
Maybe you've already connected me with this bit of data. My
birthdate is Sept 24, 41 and my dad, the youngest of his family, was
1917, his father was 1862.
Nice to meet you. I hope to hear more from you. My full name is
William Joseph and most people call me Bill. Some call me Will.
Some call me names I don't care to repeat at the moment.
Bye. Auf wiedersurfen auf das web.
BILL
