::chapter 7-lets make a date::

Justin paced nervously around his room. His glanced at the piece of paper in his hand, then the phone is his other hand, then the paper again. On it, in Joey’s chickenscratch handwriting, was Symone’s phone number. Joey had gotten it from Jessica, and passed it along. Now Justin was too nervous to do anything.
“Practicing telepathy, or are you just afraid it’ll bite?” Justin’s head shot up and he saw Lance standing in the doorway. He hadn’t even heard the door open.
“Well, apparently the telepathy worked, because I was trying to get you to call and here you are.” Justin joked.
“So what are you really doing?” Lance asked, flopping onto Justin’s unmade bed.
Justin sighed. “I met this hot girl the other day, and Joey got her number from one of her friends. I asked her to the basketball game, but she had other plans, so I want to call her and see if I can use my charm to get her to come, or at least to go out with me tomorrow night.”
“Well, don’t count on it, if you’re relying on charm. That’s my department.” Lance said, and in one fell swoop, reached over and grabbed the paper and the phone. He was off the bed and in the bathroom with the door locked before Justin had time to think.
Justin banged on the door, but to no avail. He soon gave up and leaned back against it, and slid down so he was sitting on the floor. He tried in vain to hear the conversation, but all he could hear was muffled words and occasional laughter. Five minutes later, the door opened, and Justin fell flat on his back onto the tile floor. He looked up at Lance standing over him, laughing. Justin growled and quickly stood up.
“Yeah, he’s right here. He just fell on the floor. Yeah, really smooth, you should see him play basketball.” Lance laughed as Justin glared at him, rubbing the back of his head. “Yeah, he’s still here, playing with his ‘fro. Yep, nice talking to you, too, see you tomorrow, Symone. Here’s Wonder Boy.” Lance handed over the phone, still chuckling.
“Symone? Hey.” Justin said, getting tongue-tied again.
“Hey Justin. How’s you’re head?” she teased.
“Oh, wonderful. Don't worry, I'll be thanking Lance for all of this later." He said.
"You should, he did convince me to come tomorrow." Symone said. She kept her voice calm, but her eyes and face were laughing.
Justin almost dropped his cell phone. “What? But I thought you had important plans tomorrow?”
“I did. But I figured I could work the game around them. Plus, Lance wouldn’t take no for an answer, said I had to be there, or the whole thing would be pretty boring. I kinda had to agree with him there.” Symone was trying very hard not to lose control and start laughing. It was true, the game would be pretty boring if she didn’t show up; Justin wouldn't have an opponant.
“OK, great, well, I guess I will see you tomorrow then. Bring your friends with you, if you want. I know watching basketball can get kinda boring,” Justin’s mind was still racing. He was using all of his self-control not to sound like a Neanderthal.
“Not for me. I love the game, actually.”
“Oh, right, sorry. Joey did tell me that. And he also told me you have a killer hook shot. Maybe you can show me tomorrow.” Justin replied, trying to sound flirtatious, but feeling like his words sounded childish.
“Oh, I promise. You will definitely get a sample of my mad skills!” She started laughing and Justin, assuming that it was some sort of joke, laughed, too. When it finally died down, Justin remembered why he had actually called this pretty girl, with a pretty laugh and a great personality. He didn’t think that he would see her at the game, although he wasn’t complaining now that she was. He had actually called to ask her to go to clubbing with him the next night.
“Um, Symone?” Justin started tentatively.
“Um, Justin?” was her reply.
“Well, I was just wondering, you see, I have the night off tomorrow, and I was wondering…do you know where all the good clubs are around here?”
Symone thought for a second. “That is more Jesse’s department, but, sure, I know where they are. I could call and get the directions, if you want.”
“Well, actually…” the moment of truth had arrived. Justin either had to do it, or he knew he never would. “I wanted to know if…you could take me. You know, show me all the hot spots in West Palm. We could dance and stuff.” He sat, jaw clenched, waiting for an answer.
“Justin, as much as I would love to, I can’t.” Her voice sounded full of regret.
“Oh, OK, that’s fine., I mean, it was just a suggestion, I didn’t really mean anything by it, what do you have a boyfriend that you are in love with? That’s it, isn’t it, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to ask you out when you have a boyfriend…”
“JUSTIN!” Symone’s voice snapped him out of his run-on sentence.
“What?” He replied, voice becoming less frantic, and more like a young boy.
“First of all, don’t apologize, you didn’t do anything wrong. Second of all, I don’t have a boyfriend, so don’t worry about that. The reason I can’t go out with you is…well, you seem to have forgotten why my friends call me Baby. I’m only 16; I’m not legal to get into clubs. But if you still want the directions, I can get them for you…” Symone said, frowning in her voice. He could tell she was disappointed, probably because this was not the first time this had happened. Justin knew all too well what it was like to have all of your friends go out and leave you behind to watch SNL.
Justin quickly regained his composure. “Well, then, how about dinner?”
Symone was surprised. Most guys just left it at that, she was the baby, and she knew it. Once she reminded them, they were off and running.
“Um, are you sure you want to go out with me? I mean, I am 2 years younger than you and all. Quite frankly, I’m jailbait for you!” Justin had to laugh at that.
“Why Miss Symone! I am astonished. You are only jailbait if we do something naughty.” He choked out. He hadn’t even thought of her in any kind of sexual context. Sure, he was attracted to her, and everything, but he wanted to get to know who she really was. She was a total mystery to him.

He had Symone laughing right along with him. Maybe I was wrong about him, she thought. I mean, sex is usually one of the major things on any guys mind, and if that wasn’t what he was thinking of…wow, I guess I misjudged him. She had made her decision. “OK, Mr. Timberlake, I will most certainly have dinner with you.” It was only in the seconds after she accepted that she remembered the game. If she beat him, he probably wouldn’t want anything to do with her afterwards. She decided that she would give him an easy way out. “But, if for any reason you don’t want to go through with it, just let me know, and there will be no hard feelings.”
Justin had been speechless with a large sloppy grin plastered to his face as soon as she took his invitation. “Symone, there is no reason in the world that would make me give up dinner with you. It’s a date, I promise.”
Oh, well, Symone thought, smile creeping onto her face, there goes his escape. He’s stuck with me now.
“OK, great. You can pick me up at 7, I guess. I will give you directions to my house at the park tomorrow.”
“Sounds good to me. I can’t wait.” There was a knock on the door; JC telling him they had to leave. Justin started to pull on his sneakers. “Well, I have to go to a sound check now, but I will see you tomorrow.”
Symone was now uncontrollably smiling. “Tomorrow, definitely. Bye.” She hung up the phone, and lay back on the sofa, sighing. Nicole walked into the living room, and noticed her sister’s blissful state.
“What’s up Sym? Why so happy?”
Symone stood up, grabbed her sister and twirled her around. “I have a date tomorrow!”
“Oh really? May I ask with whom?” Nicole said, while regaining her footing on the floor.
“Well, I dunno if I should tell you. OK, I will give you a hint…his initials are JUSTIN RANDALL TIMBERLAKE!” Symone laughed as her sister squealed with happiness.
“Wow, way to go Baby…and you didn’t even have to play basketball with him yet. Oh well, looks like tomorrow is gonna be a good day!”
